Obama Embraces 'Death Panel' Concept in Medicare Rule

two words: **** Obamacare

It has screwed me out of an operation that was greatly needed because "I didnt need it"

Told me I cant even get insurance because my illness isnt bad enough (Last I heard NF2 was pretty serious), but told me if I was female or a new citizen i would be eligible.

I cant get medicare. and I can not find a personal insurance that covers my pre-existing condition

Currently I have no insurance

Well my mom's work insurance is where the dental/vision comes from. They denied to cover my pre-existing condition

and my dad passed away(RIP) from NF2 in 2001

why **** Obamacare? You failed to understand that Obamacare will require the insurance to cover you REGARDLESS of your pre-existing condition.

You are getting screwed by NON-EXISTENT LAWS - meaning... you are at mercy of health insurance's greed and there's nothing that government can do to help you. Obamacare will take effect soon that will be beneficial for you.

because up until Obama went into office and changed the laws (aka tenncare). I was on tenncare, then as soon as he went started the medical acts they kicked me off because my condition wasnt serious enough.

Obamacare has nothing to do with state health care. Blame your state governor, not Obama.

Thank you, Jiro. He's blaming the wrong party for his troubles.

A lot of people are going to be uncomfortable with this, and really, I can understand why. My take on it is ...Be careful. On the one hand, this sounds very alarmist in nature, but, I can attest that things can go horribly wrong if people aren't vigilante. I had an experience back in 2006 when I was very ill and recovering from surgery. Previous to this surgery, I had signed a Living Will that basically stipulated if I wasn't able to make decisions for myself and were gravely ill, I wanted to stop treatment. No IV meds, IV fluids, no ventilator, you get the picture....

Well, historically, I've always dropped my blood pressure as I'm coming out of the anesthetic. They said to someone that they hadn't given me enough fluids in the recovery room, and, I should drink. Well, I couldn't because, I was sleeping off the anesthetic. As a result, my pressure dropped VERY low! I was very difficult to wake up, and, it was kinda scary. We tried to get the nurses to get an order for an extra bolus of fluid to be given to me, but, they were lazy about it. One nurse said..."She has low blood pressure, anyway, right?" Instead, the Dr wanted to DISCHARGE ME. Long story short, my Mom ended up calling the nurses station, and, an order was finally written for fluids. My pressure stablized, barely, and I WAS discharged.

I ended up being OK, but, this illustrates something very important. If you have a living will, you should make your wishes KNOWN; especially, if they are counter to what the LW states! Had my Mother not been in their faces about it, and gotten a simple Dr's order for IV fluids, I might not be here today.

I know. It was frightening. I can't prove that the LW was the reason they weren so lackadasical about dealing with the low fluid volume, but, it did happen. I had signed the Living Will just prior to this. It's worrisome to think that they were hedging because I had signed the LW. Thankfully, my Mom was there to lean on them for that order for the fluids.

Obama did not change the Tenncare laws. The state of TN changed the criteria.

Obama's reform will prevent you being excluded that way. You really need to figure out who is screwing you and who is trying to help you before you start throwing blame around.

You have Medicare and not private or other government insurance?

This question could be irrelevant-the changes made in Medicare do impact profits of private insurers. Point is, I'd rather see people get treated and pay higher taxes for it.

Ok, I think I just opened floodgate :run:

As would I. Because the cost is considerably cheaper when we look at the big picture.

yeah. People don't realize what a completely "socialized" system would look like. <Britain's NHS, I'm looking at you>. Cut some defense programs while you're at it.

for me on my own personal views, I view health care as more a right than it is a privilege, especially as treatments for conditions that weren't aggravated because of the patients' reckless behavior (i.e. not binge eating/drinking). Our society doesn't care how much you eat, they care more about how little you eat. I mean you're going to give me a crappier hearing aid under the state health insurance plan when I could pay out of pocket a much better aid at the same price point? I'm 25, not a older dude with $$$$. Don't you want me to hear better? Yeck. Aside from that, where I work, I pay state inmates healthcare, no matter how unnecessary the operation/procedure may be (that's *usually* approved by a institutional/prison doctor, but hey speculate on how medical companies could game the system; hence the ban on sodas at public schools).

Seriously, I get scolded for not eating *that* much at meals. Sorry, I eat 5-6times a day, and they *look* small.

That is because PAS is legal in Oregon. Just because it was offered does not mean she has to take advantage of it.

I really think it's silly. People are getting into an uproar about COUNSELING. Can't people GET that they are entitled to REFUSE that counseling if it doesn't jive with what they want?

Evidently,t hey don't get it at all. They act like the doctor is going to come in with this huge Marx brother's syringe and start killing people.:P

I know. I do believe that people need to be careful (as I've been saying, but, there's a way to protect oneself there, too. In addition to signing a LW, one should also sign a MEDICAL PROXY, whereby, you have someone you trust standing in for you and making decisions for you if need be.)

Btw, people don't realize that even a Living Will can be overroad. All you need to do is tear the dang thing up, and it becomes null and void. I did this after my 2006 experience. After that, I made up ANOTHER one that was a bit more tweaked to make it extremely CLEAR what my wishes were, so that, we don't have a repeat of what happened before. I'm only 42 and I'm by no means terminal. What happened to me was a bit frightening, but, if you approach your health care decisions with clarity (and before a crisis), you can cover your behind quite well. The KEY here is to PLAN before something happens. A lot of people wait until a crisis. This isn't a good idea. A lot of things can go 1000 ways wrong that way! I've been there, done that. I learned a good lesson.

Just be mindful, people. Take this for what it's worth, and if, you don't like what you're being told, go to another Dr. Most importantly, don't panic. Just be informed and make sure you can cover your behind when necessary.

More like States "struggling" to find a balance between new federal health laws and their state-run programs?
