Now, limiting flu shots to 65 and older?

I think it has to do with that some of them had already had swine flu vaccination during the swine flu scare (back in the 60's or 70's)? plus the 1918 swine flu which I think most senior citizens were babies or toddlers at that time.
 
No. This is an entirely new flu strain. Nothing to do with the 1918 influenza case.
 
maybe, but I do think if anyone no matter what their age are want a flu shot, assuming they have not be vaccinated or got it yet, they should be able to get one. They may have a loved one who is asthmatic or whatever at home that can't take the flu shot
 
That has to do with taking the nasal spray vaccine form, not the shot itself.

•Everyone with asthma at least 6 months of age and older should get a shot every year to protect against the seasonal flu. Children aged 6 months through 8 years who never have had a seasonal flu shot will need two doses the first time. Children who have had a seasonal flu shot in the past only need one shot. Persons with asthma should not use the inhaled “FluMist®” vaccine.

•Everyone with asthma who is aged 6 months through 64 years should get the 2009 H1N1 flu shot when it becomes available. The 2009 H1N1 flu shot is not the same as the shot for seasonal flu. If the H1N1 flu vaccine is in short supply, some persons may not be able to get the shot right away.

no, some people are allergic to vaccination shots, especially if they are allergic to eggs.
 
Of course, it's upsetting when *YOU as an individual* don't get what you believe would protect you from the flu infection but you have to understand that statistics find that older people don't seem to get sick with swine flu as much as the younger people do and because it seems to kill the young more often than the elderly, it makes sense to vaccinate the young and not vaccinate the old when it comes to dealing with shortage.

It makes no sense to vaccinate the old when the old is going to die within few years while the young has has several decades ahead of them.

I feel the same with mammograms and pap smears and a lot of ridiculous "screenings." It's about time our government stop paying for silly "early screenings" when it provides no economic benefit to our society.
 
H1N1 vaccines are available in my area and my physician will administer them to *anyone* now that there are mores supplies. Free clinics have the vaccine and will administer them to anyone as well. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, now's a great time. Even if you think that you've already had the swine flu (mild case), the clinics are still recommending that you get vaccinated. The virus may mutate in the spring and you will be protected. Stay healthy everyone. [/mom advice]
 
65 isn't quite that old as some people like to put it. Average age is close to the middle 70s anyway. I see that there are some death panels advocates here?

yes, asthmatic. you can be severe allergic to eggs, but yet you don't want to get the flu because of your asthma. Some people may want to protect themselves from the flu because they don't want to bring flu home to their loved ones who have asthma and can't get flu shot because of egg allergy .

A person who has asthma can have the vaccine injection, if they do not have an allergy to anything in the vaccine. People with asthma were the first group of people to get the vaccine injections. People with asthma are at higher risk for respiratory complications from influenza. A person with asthma cannot have the nasal spray vaccination. My 8 YO has asthma and he had the injection. No problems at all.

As Lighthouse said, if someone cannot have the vaccine for medical reasons, family members should be vaccinated to protect this person, especially if this person has asthma. Everyone in our family gets vaccinated every year asap to protect my kid with asthma. He's never had the flu, for which I am very grateful.

If you don't support national healthcare then you *are* on death panel - you don't care if they die because of no insurance.
 
It is so hilarious to see how those repukes are trying SO hard to make national healthcare look so bad by citing healthcare in other countries - ever bothered to ask how the citizens THERE if they want to see national health care removed? :)

Many were outraged at repuke's distortion of their complaints with their healthcare saying that they are complaining that their current system isn't providing their needs, they are NOT advocating abolition of health care and they would RATHER have healthcare than not have it.

All I have to do is point to Britain as a case example of how national health care would work. More unnecessary deaths.

All I have to do is point to Medicare's $60 billion dollars a year from fraud and waste as a case example.

All I have to do is to ask that seeing suddenly an extra 30 million people on this national health care roll where will we get the extra doctors to handle the load?

All I have to say that even with this health care bill it will not cover ALL people in the United States.

All I have to say is that this health care bill will include abortions provided and funded by the govt which would be the biggest example of death panels at work.

All I have to say is that we do not have enough money to even attempt this fool's errand and that would be injustice to those with needed care would be on the receiving end of abuse causing lingering pain, discomfort and even more deaths because they had to wait.

Problem with that thinking is that they have never known to have any other health care other than what their govt provides. They are hopelessly locked in.

Fraud is bad... always is... and it doesn't mean Medicare's the problem, it's the criminals that are committing the fraud. So, I guess you want Medicare removed too. Great! That'll save us more money.

It's a challenge. I am NOT denying it. You just hate the fact that we all pay for it.

Also, just because I am all for national health care does NOT entitle every person to have unnnecessary tests and screenings and vaccines and all that. People here are SO hypochondriac and they worry over ridiculous symptoms. There must be a limit to how much they can visit their doctors and a limit to how much medications they can take.

Future is not a fact. It hasn't happened. Funny how you make it sound like it's already happening here... and you know what? It is happening here on a daily basis, with so many people in ER just because they cannot afford regular a physician visit!

God, I wish people would take the time to get their medical information straight before they post articles and then make comments that are so far out in left field. But some people enjoy showing their ignorance, it would appear.
