But i think this would be a good law to have. Can someone be interested getting a deaf community go to congress and get a law pushed that all movie theater companies to provide Closed-captioning equipment in all theaters.Like If one fails to provide Closed-captioning equipment in theater they can pay a fine of $5,000 and they have 30 days to provide Closed-captioning equipment. And the Goverment comes back in 30 days and if Closed-captioning equipment isnt installed they pay another $5,000 and so on.I know its expensive to put captioning equipment in auditoriums but theaters should charge you a fee for using a device.I think this would be a good law to have.

I think that's silly, it's never gonna happen. You can't go in a movie theather for free, either. It will take time for more movie theathers to have closed captioning just like you see on DVDs.

Then how come its the law every TV set must have caption and SAP feature?

Because captioning on televisions can be turned on and off. Theaters can't.

Oh, you want to make every movie theater captioned? Fine, I want every room in every building in the United States to be strobed. I also want every phone to include a TTY. ;)

Vamp i agree. Why not make every pay phone available to a portable TTY? Look,,Shopping Malls have to make bathrooms available for the handicapped and so does public transportation must be available for the handicapped. So i think the goverment should make all movie theater companies to require movie theaters captioned. But they should sell caption devices at radio shack or from a audiologist so private medical insurance companies would pay for it.

I figured who cares I'll just rent from BlockBuster, and it's only 4 bucks a movie compared to 6-8 dollars PER person to see a movie once at a theater. Waste of money. Shut down all movie theathers! LOL.

Medical insurance will never cover it. Why do you think it would, when hearing aids are uncovered? When wheelchairs are only partially covered? There are very specific things that insurance will cover, and there are things that (I think) should be covered that aren't. But captions? No, an insurance company has no place covering those.

No, they don't. That's vocational rehab in most places, although a few states have it through other programs, and the justification is very different - movies are purely recreational, telecom is considered a basic part of life.

Umm... that was a joke. I think it's pointless to make every phone have a TTY. If we did that, we would have to add wheelchair ramps to every door of every room and building in the United States. We would have to add strobe lights to every room of every building in the United States. What about people who have seizure problems? Some people can't have strobed lights in their room due to strobed lights causing seizures for some people. You shouldn't go around protesting about something for every movie theater in the United States. Movie theaters are a source of ENTERTAINMENT. There's no law that forces movie theaters to make their movies open captioned. It's the choice of the movie theaters. If you want your movie theater to have open-captioned movies, talk to them. Prove to them that there's a high demand for open-captioned movies. If the demand is high enough, then it could happen. If the demand is too low, then they probably won't bother.

Just complain with court for adopt new bills.

More and more theatres are moving to digital projection capability. I wonder if this means more theatres that can display closed captioning?

I had been at the movie theater with open cationed almost every time. Check www.insightcinema.org/ to see what the movies with OC coming into your town or nearby. I don't really demand every movies with OC at all movie theaters since there will always be DVD with CC. I thought that would be waste the goverment's money to paid every movies with CC at the movie theater.

They would be better to paid to deaf education schools instead movies with CC at the movie threater?. :dunno:

Funny, there never been CC on porn movies?! :) Just like to know (moaning)....(grunts)...(heavy breathing) hee hee :eek2:

How would closed captions work in the movie theater? I've only seen RWC (rear window captioning), which is a major pain to align correctly, screws up the color balance on the screen, and just generally isn't very good.

The best closed theatrical captioning I've ever used was in NYC for a production of Mamma Mia - they gave me an iPaq (similar to a Palm Pilot) that showed the lyrics as they were sung. Other than that, it's all been open in some manner.

Some movie theaters already have closed caption, but not near me, but two hours away from me. I wish there was one near me at least. I don't expect all movie theaters should have closed caption, I would prefer at least one in each major part of the city. :) I'm trying to get one to open a closed caption near me because there's a large deaf community near my hometown. It's not fair for us to drive two hours away to see an open caption movie theater.

LOL!!!...

I only see one movie theater that has captioned but I haven't been there yet myself, it's about 2-3 hours from where I live....

We have one closed captioning (subtitles) movie theather at 35 miles away from my area but I don't drive there to watch but use DVD...

I would not go to movie theathers without closed captioning... Why should I watch them with no know what they talking about... I rather wait to have DVD than go to movie theathers...

I haven't go to movie theathers for over 20 years now...

Hearing people much prefer to watch Subtitles-free Movie show to see a FULL PICTURE.

In my household, my 5 hearing people in my family much prefer to watch it with no subtitles unless I want to watch it, they accept with no question asked.

Which is funny because I am the opposite. I am hearing but I always have CC turned on. My gf has gotten used to it too and she likes to have it turned on now too.

This is a problem, one that really annoys me. If theatres would just go digital the problem would be solved. If a deaf or hard of hearing person wanted to watch the movie with OC, they could also the people at the desk and they'd have it turned on. Easier that way.

It might be a good idea to make it law that fire alarms have to have strobe lights in addition to the alarm itself.

I think there might be a law on the books that requires businesses that have pay phones to supply at least one TTY. I remember seeing a TTY in an MTA station in Poughkeepsie station and was really suprised about it.
