Nintendo "Wins" E3

Good for them but I can careless about it, not play anymore.

Nintendo has been around since 1800's as a playing card company in Japan. Sony and Microsoft are kiddies when it comes to video gaming industry, they're very young. Nintendo has innovation (like Apple Computer) while Sony and Microsoft has attractions when it comes to video games.

"Wii" sounds retarded. "Wii" sounds selfish. "Wii" sounds self-absorbed. "Wii" is um... not for me.

Anyway, when I heard that they decided to name it "Wii"... I was like, WTF!? I thought "Revolution" sounded a lot better.

I like Wii. As retarded and as ridiculous as it sounds, it is unforgettable. See my sig for a nice quote about the name by Nick Des Barres, Play Magazine's Japanese correspondent.
I'll admit I did not like the name at first, but I guess it grew on me pretty quickly. Some people still stubbornly call it the Revolution on other boards which cracks me up.

Same thing with project dolphin. It was their code name when they thought it makes sense since it would make graphics very beauiful and stunning and as attractive looking as the Dreamcast and Playstation 2 but a year later Nintendo revleaed the final secrets to us with pictures of a cube-like purple system and an controller with kidney-like buttons and the big red start button and called it "GameCube" but changed around abit for the controller's B button to be more round and the start button to be smaller and lighter and the D pad is as small as the gameboy color. Nintendo has thought purple as a "royal color" but since not many ppl likes purple but most likes black, white, and platinum so good thing we didnt even see a purple Wii at all but most were black and white wiis instead.

Wii does sound pretty corny to me since it has got to be the shortest and weirdest name Nintendo has ever came up with. There were Nintendo, gameboy, super nintendo, gameboy pocket, nintendo 64, gameboy color, gameboy advance, Nintendo GameCube, and now "Wii". I'm sure I was one of those people who goes "WTF?!?" at the title of the next console and makes alot of jokes and gestures thinking its related to a penis lol.

But what about Nintendo DS? which stands for Dual Screen I dont think many people had a problem with that name either but of course it seems to be selling pretty well in the industry but rumor has it that Gameboy Advance is the final product in the gameboy production line and soon would come to an end and DS takes over.

sure hope thats not entirely true. :|

I think just about everybody went "WTF?" when they heard the Revolution was changed to "Wii". I still see some people on other boards who have been under a rock or something and go , "They changed the name??" .
GBA is far from dead, believe it or not. Final Fantasy 5 and 6 will come for GBA. This month, on the 27th, I will be picking up Banpresto's Super Robot Taisen, a Mech SRPG that has never been released in America. I think the GBA will get a steady flow of games for the next few years and finally die off, or it may never die off, because it is cheap to develop for it. Dreamcast still gets some new games in Japan every few months. A recent game for GBA that was really good is Drill Dozer which shows the GBA may be down, but not without shooting.

well, face it people, nintendo likes Wii, ( I don't), at the other boards, people went amok when they announced that it will be called wii, which I have to say is one of the most radical name so far, espically because it rhymes with Wee haha. still congrats to Nintendo for getting the award, however that doesn't mean I'm getting a Wii, no way, PS3 FTW.

*sigh* I'll never understand why they put Solid Snake exclusivly in the Wii's super smash bros. brawl when they aren't even putting Metal Gear Solid 4 on Wii and Xbox360 but rather on an pricey $600 PS3 instead.

Hmmm on the wii....The only best thing I can think about the wii and Nintendo personally is the new "virtual console" feature enabling the wii to play complete full versions of games from the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, the original NES and S-NES and the ultimate 16-bit console before the Genesis and S-NES: the TurboGrafx-16.

That I would buy the wii for cause I dont wanna deal with 20 year old hardware from Sega, Nintendo and NEC when the wii can emulate it perfectly, eh...Plus the advantage of the virtual console in wii is due to my experiences with the original NES system and their cartidges being sensitive to dust...AUGH I hated doing CPR on a Super Mario Bros. 3 cartidge cuz I kept getting the NES "flashing screen of Death" almost every time I inserted a SMB3 cartidge in a NES (and that was my final straw with Nintendo and I went Sega at that time)

Makes me wonder if the boys up in Nintendo can sneak in the original Famicom (from Japan) plus the SuperFamicom with Japan-exclusive games translated to English....

Just food for thought considering the wii took so much of "best of shows" for this year's E3.

Look at the wikipedia article on the wii virtual console:

Hmmm...interesting that it would have some free retro downloads but still wonder about the fee.

Yeah the fee that got me wondering too but I have a feeling Nintendo might do a xboxLive Marketplace-style way of doing business related to the retro game being downloaded to the wii.

Now I can finally introduce my own dear daughter to video game fun without her messing into my xbox, with the wii (not to mention teaching her some history lessons about the industry too lol ) Someday she might kick her poor daddy's ass in Super Mario Bros 3

of course, I dont think you really need to use the retro controller when I think I heard somewhere that you can still use the gamecube controller for some retro games on Wii.

Yes I noticed there are 4 GCN controller ports built into the wii. Gotta be one hell of a smart move by Nintendo due to Sony using the backwards compatiablity of the PSOne into the PS2 (and carrying it forward to the PS3) but then Nintendo got 6 legs up on Sony and M$ by having 6 retro consoles (NES, S-NES, N64 and GCN, then Sega MegaDrive/Genesis, and NEC PCEngine/Turbografx16) in the wii compared to PS1 and PS2 for the PS3 and the original xbox for the xbox360.

I'd really love to try using just the remote wand on the original Sonic the Hedgehog game instead of the retro controller or the GCN controller

Perhaps Nintendo should release an special adaptor for the wii to enable retro gamers to use the original NES, S-NES, Genesis and TG-16 controllers with the wii virtual consoles to give a real feeling of playing the retro games asit would be in 1990.

Now its gonna be a longg-shot wish for me if Nintendo could pack in a Commodore64 or Commodore Amiga virtual console in the wii heh (but then it would be one hell of a headache to figure out a good emulator lol )

I would like to see the Lost Levels of Super Mario Bros. which was included in the SMB GBC game as an unlockable. It was hard and fun. It also is the true sequel to SMB, not the SMB 2 we have in America. SMB2 in America is Super Mario's Dream Factory or something in Japan.
Now that I think about it, I don't see why Nintendo wouldn't make Japanese games available for download if the Wii is a virtual console, and if Nintendo of America doesn't do it, some hackers will make it available to everyone eventually.
