Why do you suspect that M.F. isn't 100% black?

I have the right to question it. You can't say that he is 100% black, because of the limited information on PBS link. Did Morgan Freeman mention anything about being tested for his DNA yet?

I didn't say you did not have the right to question it. I'm asking why do you suspect he is not 100% black? The question ought to be "what does it mean to be 100% black?"

is it important.....when interviewed he said he had part native american indian going back some generations

PBS link did not say anything else about the backgrounds of Albert Anderson, Mayme Revere and Hubert Freeman. So, I suspect that he is not 100% black. It could mean anything like the records have been destroyed, slaves were raped by their owners, and/ or some rape victims chose to not talk about them. That makes it more difficult to trace his ancestors. I think Morgan Freeman should be tested for his DNA.

I'd say wait it out since M.F. made the remark about Obama's "blackness" and he may get challenged to his own "blackness" as well when it comes down to it.

This is what the news media wanted. I have no idea if Morgan Freeman spoke up about his opinion or he was asked a question by an interviewer, so I can't comment on that.

I know you use mulatto term repeatedly. I have no problem with that, because my Mexican relatives and I use it in Spanish language in Mexico. We also use mestizo, too. In Mexico, and South America, mulatto and negro are not considered anything derogatory. My Venezuelan native friend speaks several languages, and once stayed here in the US for work visa. She is used to saying those terms. She told me that its better to not say because speaking per se is liability.

Well, that's all I said on this thread. This will be my last post on this thread.

Saludos.

afraid no link he was interviewed i think by terry wogan on bbc program years agojust after he made that prison film one i have forgotton..maybe if look under bbc

Yet another reason why people shouldn't look to celebrities for guidance. Freeman is one of my favorite actors, but sadly, true nearly all in Hollywood, they're idiots. I think the same of Obama too in all fairness to actors....

I agree. It's a fine line for them to walk and speak their minds.

Morgan Freeman says Obama isn't "black enough" to be President.

Morgan Freeman: No Black President For U.S. Yet : NPR

interesting....

I think that what Morgan Freeman is pointing out is that Pres. Obama's black
ancestors didn't arrive in the US during the slave era (pre-1865, therefore,he's not quite "one of us".

This is some of AAs dirty laundry that we usually don't talk about: why are the children of African and West Indian immigrants surpassing other AAs.

PBS's series,Black Journal, did a program way back in the 70's or 80's comparing the median family incomes of different ethnicities. The national average was given a value of 100%.

On said program,it was revealed that Irish American families scored a value of 104% of the national median income,West Indian descendants,80-something %,other AAs and NAs were at 60-62%,and Jews were at 180%.

This probably has something to do with attitude. I believe that when the grandchildren went back to visit Africa or the West Indies, they saw blacks
and mulattos doing all sorts of jobs and likely didn't grow up with the attitude that "I can't do this because I'm black!"

I'm an AA and NA history buff.

I don't think deafness is the same thing as what Freeman was talking about. I've had hearing people (teachers of audiology) tell me I'm not deaf, I've had deaf teachers telling me that I am - I'm sure people on this board would probably give conflicting answers too. Freeman is talking about Obama's ethnicity which deafness is not....

We were discussing the 100% vs. non-100%. Not that deafness is a key component of this thread.

If anything -- you've had people tell you that you are deaf, and others that tell you that you are not. (Frankly, that's not up to them to tell you what you perceive you are.) But nobody should be saying whether Obama is "black enough" or not. If he feels he's black, let him feel that way.

I agree what Alleycat just said. no one should tell others what they think of them who they should be. pfft.

Morgan Freeman is just hoping that his numerous roles as the President in movies will eventually cause enough people to think he is President, and elect him. :p

That reminds of Michael Richards (who wasn't Jewish) of the cast of Seinfield trying to explain himself out of a racist rant by saying he "felt Jewish." It just makes no sense to "feel" this or that - you are or your not. I don't see how anyone can dance around it...

The problem with your response is that Michael Richards wasn't Jewish. Obama is indeed black. If he wants to call himself the first black president of the US, it wouldn't be a lie. 100% black or not.

If any person (not just President Obama) has one parent white, and one parent black, what makes that person black instead of white? That would seem to me a 50/50 mix, which would be equally both black and white.

What about people who are 50/50 white/Asian or black/Asian?
