LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mel Gibson, producer and director of "The Passion of the Christ," has obtained a restraining order against a man he says stalked him to demand that they pray together, according to court papers.

Zack Sinclair, a 34-year-old homeless man, also has sent a number of letters that Gibson described in a court declaration filed on Sept. 21 as "alarming, harassing and annoying."

Gibson said Sinclair came to his Malibu home on two consecutive days last month and "demanded to see me, saying that he wanted to pray with me."

After he was "told to leave and not return," Sinclair showed up at Gibson's church the following day and "approached me, interrupted my worship, stood extremely close (approximately six inches) from me and demanded that I pray with him," Gibson said in the statement.

When Sinclair returned to the actor's home again the next day, Gibson's wife called police and had him arrested.

Sinclair was still in jail on Friday on charges of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor loitering on private property, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

The temporary restraining order prevents Sinclair from approaching Gibson or his family. A hearing on the matter is set for Wednesday.

Somehow I found Mel Gibson a little hypocritical. He's a religious guy, made a film about Christ, and yet turned away a poor (if slightly crazy) homeless man just because he wants to pray with him, and Mel found him annoying?

Tsk, tsk.

What do you think?

Actually, I think that poor man needs a life. I wouldn't want ANYONE standing in my face demanding a prayer with me!

Why can't the homeless man just go to church? He can pray with several others there.

About "The Passion of the Christ", I just bought a dvd and watched it. The movie has very realistic scenes about the last day of Jesus Christ's life. The movie clearly showed the difference between good and evil.

Ahh, that poor man is just like Lazarus in the Bible when a King refused to feed the poor Lazarus. Lazarus died due to illness ( boils/blisters ). Gibson is just like a King who refused to share that poor man's prayer...no matter what circumstance/situation it is. If, Gibson had a 2nd thought to pray with that poor man, then, that poor man will probably leave Gibson and his family alone. Or, Gibson could have help that poor man to change his life through the bible/church. Jesus taught people to LOVE one another, and even enemies despited of their status, races, religions, and all. It has to come from the heart !

Sometimes, it has something to do with mental illness. A large percentage of homeless population has mental illness.

I don't blame Mel Gibson, since the homeless man did wrote serveral letters to him and then one day came to his church, that's a bit scary....

Just because Mel made that movie "Passion of Christ" he doesn't need some stalker, ordering him around. If he wanna pray then pray,:thumb:

"Mental Illness" is way OFF the point,
NOTHING to do with this entire topic/issue
related to the heart and the Lord.

Mel Gibson is so CHEAP for NOT helping
this homeless man who was asking for help.
The Lord will judge on Mel Gibson who
earned millions of dollars refusing to
help this homeless man just like Lazarus... (Sigh)
Shame on Mel Gibson !!

Additionally, Most people might NOT realize that
that maybe it was Jesus Christ inside of that homeless man
ordering Mel Gibson around....and knocking
on the door but no one opened the door
for this homeless man

Then go look for this homeless man and invite him into your home.
:P

aye...that is true lol

one time my family and I drove downtown where it is kind of dangerous because we are near the city and there are alot of bums around, and when we drove pass by on the street, one bum was screaming about something, like he was seeing things or something, and then my mom yelled at my brother to quickly lock the doors because she thought he might try to jump in and break in our car or something like that lol it was pretty funny of how mom reacted about that bum screaming near us on the street.

let me ask you this...would you like a crazy bum to stalk you and beg you to pray with him until you had enough and decide what you want to do? call the cops on or pray with him? and if you prayed with him, what if he still wants to do it again? that would be kind of annoying and he would proably be obsessive praying with a celebrity like mel gibson or whatever like that.

Mel Gibson is only protecting himself. U have to understand that some Homeless people are mentally ill. Fact: About 25 percent of the homeless are estimated to be emotionally disturbed. One percent may need long-term hospitalization; the others can become self-sufficient with help... I cannot blame Mel for feeling threaten, by the fact that a homeless comes up to him and demand a prayer with him.

Yes, I understand that Mel was feeling threatened by this homeless man and was trying to protect himself and his family from him...still, the way Mel behaved toward him sort of bothered me, I guess.

I want to wait for some responses
from others on this thread...

Indeed.

it doesn't matter if it's a bum or a contruction worker or a paperboy, etc...it's still a stranger. It's just not right to go out with someone you dont even know, you know? you dont know what that person would do to you...he would be a threat to Mel somehow. What if he doesn't really want to pray with him and just wants to kill him instead because he might be insulted by the way he made that film or something like that? you never know.

There are tons of bums in charlotte where I live, and they always hold up cardboards messages "work 4 food" or "need help god bless" etc...but they could use those for many reasons...use money to buy drugs and/or acohol...etc u never know. many people lie all the time so dont trust anyone until you know damn better.

Mel has the right to do that since he is a stranger, after all.

No, what Mel Gibson did was right. He has a family, and he has to protect it. The homeless man was told several times to leave them alone, but did he listen?

No, they had to call the cops on him. I don't blame them. I would do the same. My family come first, and what if the homeless man was in fact, dangerous?

Some people are unpredictable and I wouldn't take my chances.

God doesn't judge those who refused to pray along with a stranger that they do not know....Mel Gibson is a famous actor who believe this homeless person was stalking him and all of the sudden wants to pray with him, I find this a bit odd...and if Mel felt threatened by this homeless man then he had every right to protect himself and his family....I would have done the same thing ...and I have to agree on Banjo, Steel and Cheri on this one....sorry :(
