Market Basket is Selling Food 5 Days Old.

I used to work at a grocery store. I had to stock a salad bar and it was common practice to find decent strawberries out of a box of moldy strawberries or to salvage decent lettuce leaves or stuff like that. My boss insisted on doing that much to my displeasure. I never ate at a salad bar ine grocery store again after that.

My sister used to work at candy store and she had take all the old candies out of the glass containers and put the new candies in the bottom then the old candies on top. Some restaurants pour ketchup in another bottle and they keep on refilling the bottles this way. I my daughter got sick once from using ketchup. I hate when people will eat food right from the salad bar in a grocery store. I saw a woman doing this once she kept picking food up with her fingers the into her mouth. I told this the store manger and he spoke to the woman.
The woman was GROSS!

Mayonnaise sandwich?!

Um.. I believe that was the Bainton family of Cllingbourne Ducis. I didn't know this place uses British pounds.

I do remember being served prawns in England years ago. They serve them with heads attached!

I just looked it up and this village is in Salisbury England and I stand corrected. I don't know my British geography as well as I thought I did.

Different dates mean different things,:

What Types of Food Are Dated?
Open dating is found primarily on perishable foods such as meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products. "Closed" or "coded" dating might appear on shelf-stable products such as cans and boxes of food.

Types of Dates

A "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale. You should buy the product before the date expires.
A "Best if Used By (or Before)" date is recommended for best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
A "Use-By" date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. The date has been determined by the manufacturer of the product.
"Closed or coded dates" are packing numbers for use by the manufacturer.

Safety After Date Expires
Except for "use-by" dates, product dates don't always refer to home storage and use after purchase. "Use-by" dates usually refer to best quality and are not safety dates. But even if the date expires during home storage, a product should be safe, wholesome and of good quality if handled properly and kept at 40 °F or below. See the accompanying refrigerator charts for storage times of dated products. If product has a "use-by" date, follow that date. If product has a "sell-by" date or no date, cook or freeze the product by the times on the chart below.

Foods can develop an off odor, flavor or appearance due to spoilage bacteria. If a food has developed such characteristics, you should not use it for quality reasons.

If foods are mishandled, however, foodborne bacteria can grow and cause foodborne illness — before or after the date on the package. For example, if hot dogs are taken to a picnic and left out several hours, they might not be safe if used thereafter, even if the date hasn't expired.

Other examples of potential mishandling are products that have been: defrosted at room temperature more than two hours; cross contaminated; or handled by people who don't practice sanitation. Make sure to follow the handling and preparation instructions on the label to ensure top quality and safety.

pizza has cheese on and tomatoes on it and they can go bad . MB was trying to sell the pizzas 5 days after the date expires. Like I said MB should had had a sign saying the pizza was 5 days old instead of hiding it.

Remembering the 2 bags of chicken I bought at the Winn-Dixie....ROTTEN!...I ask the lady behind the meat counter about the expiration date (since the chicken was discounted)...she said it expired that day, but it was still good as long as you cook it now or just go ahead and freeze it....

I took it home, opened the bag to boil some of it and to freeze the rest...and BOY...THE STENCH!...Pure Rotten Chicken....

I took it back, and raised hell at the Customer Service Counter,,told the lady to "smell" the chicken if she didn't believe me...which she declined to do so...

So, I'm always cautious of buying Chicken at the grocery stores....Also buying rice and flour...because of the "mealy" bugs....I put mine in lock-type plastic bins, and always shake and check it when I take it out of the package.

All in all, we never really know exactly what we put into our mouths, especially at restaurants...

I looked that one up. It's not as bad as it sounds. It's actually an egg and mayo dish.

I think egg with mayo sounds a lot better than just plain mayo.

I prefer to make my own mac and mayo salads and ditto for eggs and mayo spreads cuz store brands tend to drown the stuff in mayo.

As a child, I loved mayonnaise sandwiches. And also sugar on buttered bread. :giggle:

Well, I rarely use sugar on buttered bread. I've been known to add sugar and butter to my rice once in a blue moon though.

It is so unbelievable stories that I read your posts. It seems that it is getting worse once a while.

I still think that the food manufacturers overproduce the food packages everyday. They need to slow down. Just like in the northern states the people are always rush everything. In southern states, they just calm down and slow things around which is normal. I think that this is true.

It's too bad that many bosses are so selfish. Maybe one day, their store might go out of business for good.

I didn't say that.

I just thought it was interesting.

I was too quick in drawing out the sword.
Sorry.
It was just that right after I post something about how little food the average person eats, you show a pictorial slideshow showing the opposite. No biggie.

I didn't link it to your post. As you know, when one posts it just goes to the end of the line, regardless of whose post is before.

When I refer specifically to another's post I normally post it with the quoted original, as I'm doing here. :)

I think some of those pictures did illustrate the contrast of those who ate small quantities and those who had large quantities and varieties of food.

I noticed that the gallery was "Part 1." I wonder what happened to Part 2?

Children are dying right now as refugees from Somolia try to reach Kenya. The kids are too vulnerable to make it. The people who don't leave are starving. It's a complete disaster. The worst part is that the mothers don't even cry anymore. They have to move on and save their stength for any children who may survive.
