I used to work at a grocery store. I had to stock a salad bar and it was common practice to find decent strawberries out of a box of moldy strawberries or to salvage decent lettuce leaves or stuff like that. My boss insisted on doing that much to my displeasure. I never ate at a salad bar ine grocery store again after that.
I learned this in one of my college classes. That was some time back, but I suppose it is still true today as then. Perhaps someone else could be kind enough to come up with the stats?

I see. So there is plenty of food to go around and there are no famines. My mistake.
My sister used to work at candy store and she had take all the old candies out of the glass containers and put the new candies in the bottom then the old candies on top. Some restaurants pour ketchup in another bottle and they keep on refilling the bottles this way. I my daughter got sick once from using ketchup. I hate when people will eat food right from the salad bar in a grocery store. I saw a woman doing this once she kept picking food up with her fingers the into her mouth. I told this the store manger and he spoke to the woman.
The woman was GROSS!
Um.. I believe that was the Bainton family of Cllingbourne Ducis. I didn't know this place uses British pounds.
I do remember being served prawns in England years ago. They serve them with heads attached!![]()
Does is look like these babies are getting enough food to eat. and I think
one out of four kids in USA go to bed hungry every night.

pizza has cheese on and tomatoes on it and they can go bad . MB was trying to sell the pizzas 5 days after the date expires. Like I said MB should had had a sign saying the pizza was 5 days old instead of hiding it.Different dates mean different things,:
What Types of Food Are Dated?
Open dating is found primarily on perishable foods such as meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products. "Closed" or "coded" dating might appear on shelf-stable products such as cans and boxes of food.
Types of Dates
A "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale. You should buy the product before the date expires.
A "Best if Used By (or Before)" date is recommended for best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
A "Use-By" date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. The date has been determined by the manufacturer of the product.
"Closed or coded dates" are packing numbers for use by the manufacturer.
Safety After Date Expires
Except for "use-by" dates, product dates don't always refer to home storage and use after purchase. "Use-by" dates usually refer to best quality and are not safety dates. But even if the date expires during home storage, a product should be safe, wholesome and of good quality if handled properly and kept at 40 °F or below. See the accompanying refrigerator charts for storage times of dated products. If product has a "use-by" date, follow that date. If product has a "sell-by" date or no date, cook or freeze the product by the times on the chart below.
Foods can develop an off odor, flavor or appearance due to spoilage bacteria. If a food has developed such characteristics, you should not use it for quality reasons.
If foods are mishandled, however, foodborne bacteria can grow and cause foodborne illness — before or after the date on the package. For example, if hot dogs are taken to a picnic and left out several hours, they might not be safe if used thereafter, even if the date hasn't expired.
Other examples of potential mishandling are products that have been: defrosted at room temperature more than two hours; cross contaminated; or handled by people who don't practice sanitation. Make sure to follow the handling and preparation instructions on the label to ensure top quality and safety.

Mayonnaise sandwich?!
(re: favorite food of Great Britain family from gallery above)
As a child, I loved mayonnaise sandwiches. And also sugar on buttered bread.![]()
I didn't say that.I see. So there is plenty of food to go around and there are no famines. My mistake.

I didn't say that.
I just thought it was interesting.
I didn't link it to your post. As you know, when one posts it just goes to the end of the line, regardless of whose post is before.I was too quick in drawing out the sword.
Sorry.
It was just that right after I post something about how little food the average person eats, you show a pictorial slideshow showing the opposite. No biggie.

Don't buy it.
