Very interesting!! :)

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's invention, so large shipments of manure were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the term "Ship High In Transit" on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

Thus evolved the term " S.H.I.T " , (Ship High In Transport) which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

Granted but I bet, at the time, it was a bit more than trivial. :giggle: They were in deep Doo Doo!

I thought it deserved notice, but couldn't think what you could say about it!

i already knew that shits do have methane built up and can be used as for bomb material.. what you think where fertilizer come from? yes shits! lol..

Precautions
Manure generates heat as it decomposes, and it is not unheard of for manure to ignite spontaneously should it be stored in a massive pile.[citation needed] Once such a large pile of manure is burning, it will foul the air over a very large area and require considerable effort to extinguish. Large feedlots must therefore take care to ensure that piles of fresh manure (faeces) do not get excessively large. There is no serious risk of spontaneous combustion in smaller operations.
There is also a risk of insects carrying feces to food and water supplies, making them unsuitable for human consumption.

If you do it right, you could literally stick hoses into the stomachs of about 5 cows, finish up the rest of the simple project and the result would be the lighting of one 150 watt bulb, lol....

and they used the dungs for fire to keep homes warm at night time.. weird but its true...

also its used as for biofuel too... :)

Yeah, weird and off topic, the desert nomads who travel with camels save the camel dung as they go-----for their fires after it has dried out.

I am so happy not to be a desert nomad!

horse manure smells like a freshly mowed lawn. smelly shit comes from eating meat. which explains why eating a Wienerschnitzel chili cheeseburger gives me the RANCID shits.

There's a Wal-Mart store I go to that can be bothersome during a hot humid day during the Spring and Summer. :(

Next door is... Lowe's... where they stock up on fresh fertilizer. :barf:

it's not the fertilizer. it's most likely Walmart's backed up sewage.
