WACO, Texas (April 15) - A man who shot off his girlfriend's face and killed her mother was convicted of murder and attempted murder and sentenced to life in prison Friday. Later, his surviving victim forgave him, saying she has taken back her life.

Jurors deliberated about 30 minutes before finding Terrence Dewaine Kelly guilty, and another 20 minutes before deciding on two life sentences, one for murdering Janice Reeves and one for disfiguring Carolyn Thomas.

Bandages still cover most of Thomas' face, 16 months after the 2003 shooting and the first of six planned reconstructive surgeries.

In an emotional victim impact statement, Thomas addressed Kelly, saying he no longer controlled her.


"I can honestly say that I forgive you,'' Thomas said. "The world knows me now as the woman without a face. But I would rather be remembered as a survivor.''

Thomas, 34, earlier testified that Kelly abused her repeatedly during their 11-year relationship and threatened to kill her before a bullet tore off her right eye, nose and upper jaw.

After the sentencing, Kelly smiled, turned to friends in the courtroom and said, "I'll be out in two years.'' Kelly, 32, who apologized to Thomas during the trial, must serve at least 30 years before he is eligible for parole.

The defense did not dispute that Kelly shot the women but argued that he was insane at the time. The judge threw out the defense on Thursday.

Prosecutors contend Kelly was high on marijuana laced with formaldehyde the night of the shootings.

Another victim from an abusive relationship....No one deserves to get beaten , shot, or stabbed.... :(

I don't understand why some men do this to someone they love!...

I hope he stay in prison for the rest of his life...
 
Boy, this is really getting out of hand. I've noticed that lately, more and more people are killing kids, wives, girlfriends, parents, teachers, students, etc... and it is getting worse!
 
I saw this woman on Larry King Live a month or so ago, and her story is just absolutely tragic. It really makes me angry as hell that the idiot that attacked her could be eligible for parole some day. This asshole should never get out of jail!
 
We could be seeing more such things because it's easier to find out about those things quickly on the tv and the internet. And there are more people so there are more bad people.

Yes, I agree... If you read my post you can see him saying with a smile on his face that he will see them when he gets out. I also think he should stay in jail for the rest of his life too.
 
that's a very deadly resolver! :shock:

she is REALLY lucky to survive through that shot on her face.
 
Yeah like Steel said. She is Damn Lucky to be Alive. It appears to be a Ruger Blackhawk. With a bullit from a revolver that size. Most of her head could of been splattered on a wall.
I think the shooter should get life...

perhas that weapon is a broken butterfly or Killer 7? eh...whatever version of this reslover is, it's still very powerful.

I think the shooter should get a death penality since he shot and killed her mother, as well.

I think that they should shoot him in the face and then if he survives let everyone in prison :buttsex: him in the :booty: for the next thirty-two years before finally killing him.
