Liar!

I am no means poor. And I worked hard for it. My family worked hard for it.

My retirement fund is enough to make my roommate cry. So luxury? Top-of-the-line brand new consoles, brand new computers, enough plastic cages for animals to make someone heave. At one point I was considering buying a BMW... even though I couldn't drive; I figured I would hire someone to drive me around or lend it to friends. :p All made from the almighty black gold.

:)

I just choose to go without. I used to have everything I could think of; didn't make me happy. Decided to toss that money toward the people instead. Makes me happier.

Most of my insecurity with money now is more because I am starting to see my relatives being unable to work at age 40 and not having any money nor being able to qualify for welfare.

And no, I am no Marxist or socialist. I don't give into "please, please, please" anymore. Not my responsibility to take care of them, nor do I think economic equality will ever exist.

You certainly should not have to justify yourself or your decisions based on a rude and self-serving comment such as the one that was made to you. You have character. Continue on in the way you are going. You deserve respect, not ridicule.

Right. But us Euro-trash Americans are all about ourselves. Sorry dude, not the case with me. I walk, I take public transportation when I can. I drive a fuel efficient vehicle, and not because I could not afford a big gas guzzler. I made a decision to make at least a small attempt at conserving.

Your comments about oil being irreplaceable as an energy source, then brushing off comments about conserving, seemed to be contradictory. You think only the more primitive people of our planet can make a difference? Once the oil is gone, there had better be a viable option, or everyone will be an Eskimo, Bushman, etc. Maybe there are tens of trillions of barrels to be recovered, maybe not. We can drill, bulldoze, and cause untold eco-damage by keeping the pedal to the metal. Won't that be fun?

I leave the back patting for future generations. They might appreciate the fact some of us made an effort. Not pointing fingers, nor am I saying I am perfect. Every little bit helps. Same as littering; even a small amount of litter can look awful.

One final observation: if you are a Conservative, what exactly are you trying to conserve, besides your own personal wealth?

Well said! I, too, use public transportation whenever I can, shoe leather much of the time. I do own a car, but it sits in my drive unless I am on call during a time when public transport is not running or I have to go somewhere the transport doesn't run. And the car is not a gas guzzler, but a little Korean model that gets 32 MPH in town.

20 pairs? Must be a part of the Imelda Marcos shoe collection. All I have is my pair of work boots, cowboy boots, tennis shoes, and pair of sandals for summer swim fun.

What...can't afford dress shoes, or never invited out?

I agree. It's an eyesore. Even at my aunt's house just now looking across I can see hundreds of those wind turbines off in the distance.

An eyesore?

...Have you personally seen the oil spill? It's affecting areas by where I live, and it's MORE than just an eyesore.

Hence the No-Drill Zone.

Yes, it is an eye sore. Blots out the landscape's contour and ridgelines from miles around. As for oil, it's only an eye sore if you're right up on the beach.

No, not just only for beach, also is town that near to coast.

I just skimmed through the rest of this thread, but I'm really confused by the original post. This is how I read it. First Kokonut quoted Obama with this in bold:

"because we're running out of places to drill on land and in shallow water."

Then called him a liar and showed us a map of OFFSHORE drilling where there are no zone areas "blocked by democrats". Doesn't offshore drilling take place in deep water, beyond the continental shelf? How is this evidence? That's saying "Obama said that all of Colorado has banned smoking in bars" then calling him a liar and showing a map of all the smoking bars in Wyoming.

You are getting way too logical....:giggle:

I think many of the Conservatives simply want to conserve their money and lifestyles, and heck with everyone else on the Big Blue Ball. If that means drilling all over the place so we can keep wasting fuel on huge vehicles, plastics for convenience, and gas powered toys, while keeping fuel prices modest, too bad for everyone else. We are the Big Bully of the world.

To semi-quote a famous wrestler: "Hey world, whatcha all gonna do, when the US of A drops a bunch of "shock and awe" on you?"

dont know anything bout the continental shelf or the like but it isnt that far off shore. example being when i was in freeport texas one summer, you could see oil rigs out there and they werent far off the coast and there was alot of dead fish on the beach.

Funny how some tend to miss the big picture unless it directly affects them, huh?
