My mother is currently in ICU . She had her 2nd round of surgery yesterday on her lower left leg. They did get all the infection she had out of the first incision, but had to make 2 more incisions to get the rest of the infection and swelling from around the leg. She now will have 3 scars around the left lower calf and shin. She doesn't care as she always wears long pants and noone has to see it except herself and me. They put her in ICU because her blood pressure dropped very low. She got 2 more units of blood and they are monitoring her blood pressure with medication. She is not critical, but
in the ICU they can keep a closer watch on her. Once she is able to hold food and water in her system and get her bladder working properly, they will be able to get her back into her room upstairs. The doctor is wanting to put her into a nursing home for recovery and therapy, but she is fighting it due to finances. She only has Medicare and Social Securiy and has applied for Medicaid. Nothing else. The doctor says that she will have a long road for recovery. He's not sure how she got the infection, but it was in her bloodstream and only festered in her lower left leg. Nowhere else in her body at all.
She is staying upbeat and positive and says she can't wait to get home to the house. She is not ready to go home to the Lord. She says she has too much living to do and she's not finished here on Earth. And at almost 70, she ain't reay yet. Those were her words to the doctor and surgeon who both came to check on her while I was there.
Obviously I am spending as much time with her as I can, as well as keeping the house running, taking care of hubby and kids and getting the homeschooling done with kiddos and trying to keep up with my ASL studies. Lots to do, but I'm feeling better about it this time around. I feel terrible about missing church, but at least I have neighbors who make sure I am kept in the loop with Wednesday night studies. I just feel I need to spend time with my mother. God and I have wonderful conversations while driving to the hospital and I have gotten a lot of comfort knowing he is there. I also am comforted knowing that I have the support of a lot of friends both from Mom's growing up, her college years and her adult years, not to mention friends of mine from all along as well as new friends for all of us.
Thanks,
Kristina
