What do you think?
This story is developing on a daily basis.
A lot of folk are saying that this is blown out of proportion, but I do not think so.
I fear for our country.

Yeah, Bush can't do that. He doesn't have the power to do that. This election thing has been going on for hundreds of year... since the beginning of America. There is no way they are going to cancel it. If they cancel it, it's like making Bush... Saddam. A permanent president until death.

Shuddering...I'm shuddering at the thought of that happening. No way will anyone accept Bush being their PERMANENT president until he dies. No way! I bet there'll be a huge revolt against that should that happen.

Cancel the elections? No, I think you misunderstood. Bush's security advisor suggested that it may be POSTPONED due to terrorism concerns, however Bush wants to go ahead with the elections on 2nd November as planned.

Bush's national security adviser Condoleezza Rice tried to put an end to the controversy Monday evening.

"We've had elections in this country when we were at war, even when we were in civil war, and we should have the elections on time. That's the view of the president. That's the view of the administration," she said. "No one is thinking of postponing the elections."

Newsweek said the discussions about whether the November 2 election could be postponed started with a recent letter to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge from DeForest Soaries Jr., chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

Why postpone it? That will only cause more problems. If the terrorists attack us, oh well... it happens. We have it coming anyway.

I agree with you, I was only stating what was going on, but not my opinion.

i think that we cannot change the rules once there's a law about 4 year term.. and 8 year term max...

The official, DeForest B. Soaries Jr., chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, denied in an interview on MSNBC’s “Countdown” that federal officials had any plans to postpone the election, but he confirmed a report in the new edition of Newsweek magazine that the panel was seeking to establish a process to do so should it become necessary.

“This has less to do with expecting terror than it has to do with making plans in the event of a crisis,” Soaries said. “If I suggest that you buy a spare tire, I’m not suggesting you postpone your trip.”

Set a standard, yes, but it doesn't mean that elections will be canceled or suspensed.

I honestly don't think we have to worry about the elections being altered in any way. In my opinion, we should MORE concerned with the Summer Olympics since it's so near, and there will be lots of countries represented there. It would seem to me that attacking Athens during the Olympics would have more of an impact than trying to attack our election would, but I could be wrong.

REba, why are you replying to a July thread???
Because people making wild accusations should be held accountable.

Read my post.
HOW did I make a "wild accusation?" I was only relaying what I heard, and I had every right to post it.
You're just having a bad day. Just go kill some children in Iraq if that'll make you feel better.

:booty:
