Let's say that you want to create a website for your home based business. You have maybe 200 different items that you want to sell. How do you decide to do it?

Will you focus on one item entirely and then move on to the next item and focus on it? Or will you just try to get every items on line?

You see, one of my friend suggested that I put ONE picture of every bikes that I have for sale on computer. Figure that if they see this one picture, they would be interested and want to come and see it. Part of me wants to put every bikes up online. However, I feel it may be waste of time if I put one picture of each, and then go back and add more pictures to each one of them?

Should I take say 4 or 5 pictures of one bike and then move on to the next bike? Repeat the cycle. The more exposure, the better.

Bikes are different just like people. Get as many of your stock up as you can so people get an idea if you have something that suits them.

Think as marketing, which do you think potential customers, like yourself prefer see more or less before buying?

I would say yeah 4 or 5 should be enough. 1 might not be enough.

Remember, no clutter, decent background, maybe little decoration that appeals the bicycle, for example picture background of somebody riding bicycle in attractive way in order to sell but that is not requirement.

If picture shows clutter, it is like telling the buyer that your not taking care of stuff, and they would not want to deal with you.

It had happened to me. I was in market for Jeep Wrangler back then. I was about to come to see dealer on parking lot about this jeep, and I notice a salesman coming to car fast, there was ice on windshield and hood. He used ice scrapper and bang bang on ice on the hood and windshield. It turned me off, decided I don't want buy from them because they showed me how they took care of their inventory as careless. So fuk them and left.

So in business world, you want to make customer happy, treat them as if you were them from business.

Should I take say 4 or 5 pictures of one bike and then move on to the next bike? Repeat the cycle. The more exposure, the better.

you wont know untill you try and if it works then carry on..got do everything you can these days

I would start by getting 1 picture per bike up, at least for enough bikes that you feel you won't lose customers because they didn't see what they wanted. So if you have some bikes that are very similar (function, quality/price point, style, color, size) you could put off some of the similar ones. Put a note up saying that you can provide more pictures on any bike if someone is interested. Then go back and start taking those pictures and adding them to the page for each bike. (Obviously if someone asks about a bike, you do that one next.)

I think you can have a primary picture of different bikes on a menu page, and then when someone finds a bike they're interested in, they can click on it and go to that bike's page. From there they can see more pictures of the bike.

As I think about this, one problem that occurs to me is that you would need to be better organized than I am. Because if you get a bike out and start to photograph it, you'll probably want to get all your shots of that bike before you put it away again. So you have to decide, is it worth it to take the pictures, post one, go back and get the others later from wherever you file them, find the bike they go with, and put them on the site in the appropriate place? It might not take much more time to just get a bunch of shots per bike at once put up on the site. In that case I'd save yourself the time and do it that way. It sounds like a big project and you don't want to wear yourself out.

diehardbiker is right ... I've seen stuff listed on craigslist and online Facebook yard sales pages that I'm interested in but if the person has pic(s) up of the item but it's messy or junky in the background I say forget it and move on I won't even mess with something that looks like it's in a junk yard or salvaged from somewhere. And as far as how many to list? A few would be good to give consumers a choice and (like car dealers I've seen online) possible having 1 thumbnail of the bike up with a link to more pics of interested along with additional details of each bike itself. Someone mentioned having bike related items up that sounds good too like a helmet hanging on a handle bar or bike gloves and such but ALWAYS mention accesories are not included with bike but can be purchased separately.(If you sell those too if not just say those aren't included with the bike) But every once and awhile maybe throw in an extra item in the deal like "Free bike helmet with purchase(limited to stock helmets)" or something makes people check back more often to get a deal.

how about this, if the bike is cheap, do one picture..if the bike is 'extra special' collectors show 5, if the bike is expensive show 10 (gears, frame welds, wheels, seats)...
tailor it, lik dont waste too much time on CHEAP bikes, one pics or 2 no more (but good clear pictures, and say a good angled pic and a clean 'boring picture' should suffice

that way, you're not wasting a WHOLE lot of time...AND at same time, you're know those looking at good bikes are going to want to see more than 1 picture, but don't over do it...just 4 or 5, no more and move on ...
you be the judge...

Yeah I second 1 picture is enough if it's really cheap, like 20 bucks. With such a low price it'll be obvious it isn't the best bike in the world.

But for a more expensive one yes more than 1 is good. If there are any imperfections such as scratches or blemishes it would be nice to see them up close so the potential customer knows you are an honorable person not some sleazy car salesman.

With the expensive ones have the following:

* Front
* Rear
* Right
* Left
* Whole bike from a distance
* If any imperfections, show them
