Does anyone have iPod Classic here? If so, please let me know, as I want to ask a question and/or favour.

if you're interest to watch video with cc on ipod. you may be out of luck, because it required to plug AV to TV that would appear cc.

so, you probably want iPod Touch, it does show cc... but i dunno about AUS that have available.

We have these devices here in Australia. I am not sure about iTouch, becuase the memory, is quite smaller than I expected (The biggest memory is 32GB), but iPod Classic has more than I thought. I was trying to figure it out if it was captioned to be available on the iPod screen.

So out of luck, yes -- but PowerOn, the question is, the plug to AV to TV for the CC to appear, what about the resolution? Would the screen be crystal clear or a bit messed up with the big pixels, no?

I am just wanted to be careful with the details before I could consider buying one to become my walking movie collector so I can use it anywhere rather than collecting all DVD's that I have bought. ;)

Jake considering that your hiding in the broom closet Im sure that iTouch would be added comfort, lol. (sorry I couldnt help as I just got done reading the other thread and you called the iPod Touch the iTouch.)

Damn, I meant to say iPod iTouch

sorry I hijacked your thread - I could help but giggle when I saw that. Damn I gotta get my head out of the gutter.

oh BTW I use the iPod nano - 4G version - has video on it, but you can also purchase an iPod Nano with 8G of space. Also Ive heard that the iPod Touch is alot of whizzbang if its only going to be used as a media player because it also has wireless capability on it as well as other bells and whistles.

The reason I went with the nano was because it was really all Ive needed. Ive downloaded quite a few things on my nano and I still havent used up half of the space on it yet, 4G of space is very ample.

I have more than 60 DVDs, do you think it would fit in the 8GB memory as a movie list, no?

No, it wasn't fit, DVD would take about 200 MB or more, depends on quality, texture and resolution when you are ripping it into mp format.

youd be surprised as to what fits into 8gigs of space.

my laptop has 80gigs of space - it going to take me a couple of years to fill that up. Most people who get the 120 g computers RARELY fill even half of that up before the computer is disposed of and a new one is purchased.

Jake I think what you need to do is this:
purchase an external hard drive - rip all of your DVDs to that hard drive then sync the ones you plan on watching in the near future to your iPod, when your done, remove it from the iPod and sync another from your hard drive. I dont think your going to watch 60 DVDs in one sitting anyway. ;)

Well, iPod Nano isn't reality 8GB, you would get under 8GB after formatted and installed iPod OS in iPod.

Only problem about USB, that slower transfer than FireWire does but Apple removed the FireWire controller to reduce the price, only make FireWire for charging on battery. iPod don't act like true USB at full 480 mbps but rather to speed under 480 mbps, depends on controller that contain from computer.

Unlike iPod, 3.5" external HDD can act like true USB at full 480 mbps.

I do have ipod nano 4g but I dont know where I put it somewhere in the house. So that is why I am starting to clean it up to find it. If I lost it then I would get another one of ipod nano 8g. There is one that have 8g of ipod nano. I dont like ipod classic cuz I dont want to watch anything on it. I just want to listen to my favorite musics. I have too many of them maybe over 1000 of them. LOL

if you know how to - you can use your iPod as a file transfer device, especially if you are transferring files from an older computer to a newer one. It can be done although dad thinks its just a bunch of space age hooey, lol

Pffffffffffffft our Dad. :giggle:

You can go to Learn about Dell's laptops, desktops, monitors, printers plus computer electronics & accessories. and they have all kind of media players there that you don't have to have special apple software and can only use stuff that apple has put out, it takes all kind of media and is cheaper and easier to use. I use a Creative Zen V that has a 4gig flash drive so you don't mess up a tender hard drive. My husband has a Creative Zen vision M player but it has a 30 gig hard drive in it instead of a flash drive. If your easy with it while its running it is really good player but I use mine when I am walking and exercising so I need the flash drive for all the moving around. They both store video and have recorders on them so you can take them to class or work and keep them in your pocket and record conversations on them and stuff. Mine cost us about $150.00 and Tony's cost us about $300.00 but they are both well worth it considering what we got them for and how much we use them. go check out different sources and see if you can find something that would suite you better and then decide what to get, there are lots of players out there.

It's iPod Touch and iPod Classic, don't get confuse. :)

I guess I may not know what type CC it would appear on your regional. Probably, it wouldn't. The resolution it would appear on TV as 480i which is TV standard resolution size. Yes, you would find much different as pixels show bit weird.

Maybe you can rip DVD with subtitle on it, it probably be readable on iPod Classic's display size. I believe at least 240p is good enough.

eh... Jclarke live in Australia!

yeah but you'd be surprised at what American products are available in Australia, its worth a try anyway.

I think you would be pleased to see this results.

My brother has discovered that of this Handbrake download - which can rip DVDs into your iPod classic or other iPods (iTouch, iPhone or whatever).

YOU can download the software here --> HandBrake 0.9.1 - MacUpdate There is settings there, where you can encode english subtitles and my brother encoded in with the subtitles from Fast and Furious: Toyko Drift after the encoding has been completed. The movie was viewed with english subtitles nicely. ;)

So the results, is that YOU can rip DVDs into your iPod Classic with the subtitles encoded.

NOTE*: This download is for Mac Users only

**Be warned encoding a standard DVD movie with subtitles can take up to 24 hours**
