When I visited my hearing co-worker's home to fix things and help him move stuff in past. Every visit I made to his home, I kept hearing intermitted chirping sound (every 1 or 2 min) constantly. I asked him if he can hear chirps from fire alarm. He said nope and even asked his wife, same thing. It struck me odd that I can hear so clearly cuz I was wearing CI. It had been chirping for a year and never got it's battery replaced regardless I told him he need to do that.
So did I visited other hearing's home and I can hear it chirp too. I asked them if they heard fire alarm chirping. They didn't recognized it at first but eventually they finally recognize chirps from fire alarm. They apologized me that they were numb on fire alarm chirps. They replaced batteries and on my next visit, it was quiet.
It is very interesting that hearing people have ways to block off sounds and don't recognize it for long time till someone from outside comes in and recognize it quickly.
Have you ever had this before with your HA or CI when hearing people just "tuned out" sound that had been around for long while?
