I am putting this thread out in On-Topic Debates since it brings back the messy 2000 Presidential Elections. Most Dems have argued that Nader took votes intended for Gore and swung the election in Florida in favor of Dumbya.

Yesterday Nader annonuced that he is running as Independent for President. I have to admit I have much respect for Nader as an advocate for "the common man", but I am afraid for certain that when it gets to the General elections in November 2K4, the same Florida/SCOTUS thing will rear its ugly head, but OTOH, increased voter anger towards Bush could drive some Republicans and Independent voters to either Kerry or Edwards (whatever the Dems nominate)

Now the question lingers: Will Nader give us 4 more years of Bush or will Nader help Kerry or Edwards take the White House? Discuss here.

First off, I balked at the comments implying that Nader "stole" others votes intended for Al Gore. I think every voter is personally responsible for his or her own vote. It just happened that there wasn't a strong enough network to get Nader or Gore in the White House, unfortunately.

But! I can see a much more stronger network for this year, so I am more optimistic about getting a good President out of the Dem candidates. We just have to personally make sure whom the majority leans toward, Nader or Kerry/Edward.. so our votes can really go where it realy counts. I already sent out an application by mail to get that absentee ballot.

Great thread, s!

I know.....Gore's campaigning style was another factor in the 2000 elections.
However I had a feeling that most of the Dem-leaning Independent voters went to Nader in 2000. I will have to check DemUnderground to get the stats on how many Dem/Repubs/Independent went Nader along with his nationwide total of 3% of the vote in 2000.

Not only did Nader's run in 2000 influence the outcome in Florida. NH swung towards Bush in a close contest.

The Dems tried to get Nader not to run this year. It seems like ol' Ralphie gave McAuliffe (the Dem's chairman) the :fu2: and went ahead with his own Independent campaign.

However this year I think that with Nader hovering over Kerry/Edwards' heads they will have to campaign harder in order to beat Dumbya and the Repugs in November.

Now this I call "Unsafe at any Voting Booth" my take on Nader's 1966 book "Unsafe at Any Speed" this year. The voters are much between a rock and a hard place to choose one of the 3 candidates.

Shock Nader

As a consumer advocate, I have lots of respect for Ralph Nader for his work in exposing a lot of anomolies in the industrial world. We happen to see eye to eye on many things going on in the industrial world.

As for politics, I think hes merely making himself famous for sending out shockwaves through the electorial process. He hasnt made any headlines lately as a consumer advocate so he decides to do something different to get back on the headlines.
