How did you guys do at school with your work

I had 3-point and up GPA throughout high school and college; my non-math course grades pulled up my overall GPA in one way but then I guess the math also pulled it down some....but my folks and I were pleased anyway. I did like high school and college overall.

DeafLissa, I struggled a lot in P.E. due to not understanding rules/ spatial stuff also-
 
I also had difficulty with PE because of my blindness. Since I couldn't see what was happening, all I could do was follow by using sound. That being said, I was pretty good at basketball, softball and track. For track, I held onto a rope when running around the gym. For basketball, I could hear where other players were according to the ball hitting the floor. For softball, we used a "beeping" ball so I could tell when to hit it or catch it in the outfield.
 
I was too busy partying in HS and trying to hide my identity. I'm surprised I didn't smoke myself retarded :D. I still did okay, but could have applied myself a lot more and gone to a better undergrad university than a state school. Hearing loss was seldom an academic issue because there was always good communication between my teachers and I and my support team. But it was a huge social issue for me.

I finally got a clue in college, started working hard, and accepted myself as an HoH individual. I did very well, graduating with honors, and now I'm in grad school at a highly ranked university. I'm happy. :)

HA, I learned some about the BeeperBall when I was working in the Summer Rec. Program at MPS.

It seems like you did well in the sports, HA - I never understood the rules for those team sports, sequences, spatial orientation.... people assumed I knew what was going on but I didn't know....they got so upset with me and so I was even more nervous; I was scared all time in gym class-
 
At the end of my high school, my gpa was 3.79 and ranked 18th out of 500 students. Not bad for deaf and dumb who spend first 6 years as an oralist and no language. As for college, my gpa was above 3.0 cuz I hate history and essays. I think I flunked one class cuz I never finish this course at college oops. I am done with schooling here.

That 82% has been the lowest permanent course mark that I have gotten in high school so far. In semester 1 of grade 9, I had an average of 90%. Semester 2 of grade 9 I had an average of 92%. Semester 1 of grade 10 I had an average of 90%. I just have to wait until the summer to find out what my semester average is for this semester.

It's ironic you should mention depression because I ended up failing all of my classes last semester due to my bipolar. I wasn't on the correct meds and because of that, my GPA dropped from a 3.7 down to a 3.5. There isn't anything wrong with a 3.5, but I want to graduate with Honors and the lowest GPA one can have in order to do that is a 3.5. I have 2 more courses to take (which I will resume in September now that my bipolar is under control), so hopefully I can raise it back up to a 3.7 or better.
 
Ugh....All I can say is ugh. The teachers and "experts" basicly dumped me and expected me to suceed with minimal accomondations. (ie preferential seating, FM device and speech therapy)
B/c I didn't get good accomondations I was expending too much energy on learning.....I didn't have enough energy to actually produce content.
I got told I was lazy and I was too smart.
One thing I remember abt second grade is sitting in the classroom being puzzled as fuck about the concept of long and short vowels and syllabels.
 
I did allright at HS, struggling with my academics. I was not happy at HS while some people looking down at me for some reasons. :aw: I did it better at college and universities. If I did not struggle with my depression, I would have graduated with a MS with the GPA of 3.5. At least, i managed to get a job with Vocational Rehabilitation Services anyway.

On a further note... I don't mean to sound braggy but today I found out that before summatives & exams (which either have not been done yet or have not been marked yet) in history I have a mark of 98%. :) I was very proud... but it is going to be very hard to maintain those marks through exams and summatives. There is only one person who had a higher mark than me in history right now with a 99%. :shock:
 
I sucked at school, was basically treated like I was an undesireable mentally handicapped kid (funny, I have worked with this wonderful population for many years now) quit and ran away from home as a teenager. Found out I was severely hard of hearing at 19 years old, got my first HA. Put myself through 2 years of College and found out I was not stupid as I had been told all my life. Got on the Dean's Honor Roll List, that was enough College for me, such hard work to lipread, get extra notes and 'hear'.

I suck at math, have such an abstract mind, heck, I can make 2+2=5, hahaha. Good at spelling, reading, art, drama, writing.
 
I know this is off topic but how come you wasnt diagnosed until you was 19

I can identify with your experience of being diagnosed with hearing loss later in life. I wasn't diagnosed with a moderately-severe hearing loss until age 15. I was diagnosed with mild hearing loss at age 3 at which time hearing aids and ear surgery were recommended, but my parents' health insurance would not cover the cost for reasons I do not know. My high school teachers noticed my speech becoming more difficult to understand and took note of how I did not respond to my name when called in class. My parents were contacted and they were asked to take me to the audiologist for a hearing test. It was at this time that I learned I had a moderately-severe hearing loss and was given my first pair of BTE hearing aids.
 
I got my report card for last semester and it was an 88%. I was very disappointed :giggle: as it is my lowest semester average yet.
 
I always struggled in academic, as i never listen to teacher(what can i do, i dont understand at all!!). I always look at blackboard blankly as if i am listening! Luckily, I love reading......thus only solution to improve i get to read the subject books and try to understand.....(it so difficult, but it paid off soon!). It is especially difficult when teacher ask me question , and i stared at him back blanky.....always do tht!!
