How can you feel so excited when sad?

I have bought the same tires for my last truck, well over $1000. The motor/trans is dry as a bone, not a single leak. No puff of smoke on startup or driving. Truck runs, drives, handles like its brand new.
Checking salvage yards for parts, craigslist is hit n miss.

How many miles were on the truck? Looks like the seller was telling the truth and you got a very good deal. My car is almost nine years old and I only have 55,000 miles on it. Wasn't able to drive it for a couple years when I got sick. Still feels like a new car to me.

I grew with a father that sold cars for a living and we got to use his Oldsmobile 88 demonstrators like a family car. Every year we had a new one and some years two or even three because people wanted to buy his demonstrator! The other side of that was toward the end of the model year they wanted to get rid of the current ones before the new models came in. At that time it could be any age used car. So . . . as an adult my extras have been other things. I just want a dependable car with a reasonable selection of working features; the year label means nothing to me.

The truck has 204000 on it as it sits now.... now even a puff of smoke on start up...its in amazingly great shape besides the body damage.
I am amazed, and very happy with it so far.

I haven't been on in a few days and just now saw the pics ... you got a good deal ... does it have the 327 engine ?? I had a 2001 Chevy Silverado like that with a long bed and was 4x4 and that truck would haul ass ... I had it up over 100mph on the interstate before too and it barely phased it ... and it would go anywhere ... only downside to it was the gas mileage it was a gas hog ... I used to scare the crap out of my niece and nephew in it ... id hit the gas from a dead stop and the truck would just sit there for a minute spinning the wheels before it took off LOL

Oh ... and you may be able to get a steering wheel from a junk yard too ... the one in my truck i have now looks identical to yours only its leather wrapped and theres no wear on it at all even for being 10 years old ...

It has the 4.8 in it, I did see a lot of steering wheels but didn't pull one yet. I did find a matching fender I replaced, I also got the door weather strip. I sent off a money order to a guy in florida who is shipping me brand new crystal clear headlights and tail lights. Ordered a door mirror and light bracket on Amazon. Should be ready for inspection in a few weeks.
I also replaced my door speakers that were blown

Yes, I had mine to 80mph with no effort on the highway and punch it, it will set you back in the seat... it has power out the ass. Also has a K&N cold air intake and straight pipe exhaust, sounds mean as hell when you get on it, but otherwise quiet when cruising.

Wish my car had offroad pipes, but they're illegal. :( I'm seriously considering trying to get nice leather seats for my car from a salvage yard, not sure how much that would cost, but I would like to be the first person in my entire family to ever have leather seats.

My car has a 4.8 also, just wish I made a more practical and less costly choice in car years ago, now I'm stuck with it for the time being, but it is paid off.

:laugh2:

Nothing like those good ol' factory speakers with no foam :laugh2: Don't feel bad, I have a 2010 and just replaced all the factory speakers and they looked the same. :laugh2:

Most salvage yards charge the same, $50 for bucket seats and there is a car here in one of the yards that has leather buckets that looks brand new. Im tempted, but I have buckets already (cloth)

When you any car in my state you have it inspection with 7 days after the sale. How long do you have in your state?

we have 30 days, after that you get a pentalty about $30 a month, not to exceed $100 you can wait years if you want. I had dirtbikes I never titled until I put them on the road, never paid more than $100 and been years.
All my parts are shipped today and should be here Wednesday, except headlights will be about 2 weeks?

Yeah, I'd need two seats and the back seat, but it would be nice to get a discount and offer my old seats as a trade, but I know it probably doesn't work like that.

I'd be stuck with those seats if I upgraded to leather. :eek3:

Wow, that is a long time .

Well got all the misc. parts from Amazon and installed, waiting on the headlights and tails so I can get inspections. Hope it all passes with flying colors.

The front end ( radiator bracket/frame ) is shifted and tried to pull it over with a come-a-long but didn't help, so later I will take it to a body shop and have them straighten it, line up the hood and all. Should run me about $200, but its just cosmetics... not a big concern.

A guy I dated was really good at fixing cars and trucks and he brought a bread van that been taken apart by the last owner. The guy did not know how to put the engine back together and sold his van for $500 to my boyfriend. The van guy didn't think my b/f was going to be able to get the engine back together and in the van . Two or three weeks later the van was on the road and been painted over and had a new air horn and lights on it. The last owner saw the van and he wanted to buy it back and he was going throw a car into the deal . My b/f kept the van and had the last laugh.
The engine was great and the tires fine too and the van was only driven in California so it had not rust from winter salt . My b/f made a camper out of the van and with a stove too. The guy that sold it was kicking himself.

I wish I had mechanical skills, but I have no place to learn and nobody to teach me. I have always wanted to buy a non-running DeLorean and get it running and back on the road. Either that or a class B RV so I can finally have a home of my own. Those are about the only dreams I have. I still manage to keep my old motorcycle on the road and I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm doing something right..lol

My b/f grew up very poor and had to learn how to fix a lot of things.
His grandma raised him and he had no one to teach him , he just learned on his own. When he worked on a car he would laid the parts down in the order they came off , and just put the parts back by working his way down the row. . Once he got better he was able to work on a car and knew where the parts belong. The guy had the bread van took the engine and dumped the parts into a bucket and he had no idea how to put it back together. My b/f took one look at the mess and knew how to put the engine back together . Cars where easier to work on in the 40's and 50's too.
You could take a course to learn how to fix cars , it would be cheaper to fix your own car.

You try to kill someone. The pipe without the catalytic converter is carbon dioxide poisonous.

. . . Cars where easier to work on in the 40's and 50's too....
Very true. Cars now are very computer-technology dependent now. It's much harder to be a shade-tree mechanic these days.

High schools used to include automotive shop classes. I don't think that they do that now, in general. Everything is college focused now rather than teaching any trades skills.

Lots of young people now can hack a computer but they can't change a tire or do an oil change on a car.
