I type www.cnn.com and it goes to some japanese sex site.

Anyone had to deal with hijackware? Lets share on how we deal with it.

I use Hijackit freeware to inspect and edit the registry.

Good, you got some nasty spyware on your computer. toy with hijackthis, ad-aware, spy bot S D, and TCPFIX you got some host file that redirect cnn to funny web sites. it will take hours and numerous reboots to get rid.

:werd: I've been there before.

Last summer, it was hell for me. I ended up getting redirected to porn sites and bullshit spamming sites that I couldn't avoid. After hours and hours of work, I finally managed to get rid of everything.

You're better off reformatting your computer, Nesmuth. Once you reinstall everything, update Windows and get a good anti-virus software (e.g. Norton AV 2005).

I don't believe reformatting would be the first step....depending on the data that you have on your computer.

I would try the different software mentioned above. Two of my favorites is Ad-Aware from Lavasoft, and if you are running Windows XP, I find their AntiSpyware software (and its free) to be pretty effective.

I thought of that but hijackit freeware helped me get rid of the hijackware on the registry and all's well afterwards.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you can't successfully delete spyware using those free programs out there, then I would suggest reformatting your computer.

Best suggest get Spybot search & destory prgm, I use both Hijackthis and SSD to inspect the suspection of infected spywares. easy removes spyware and infected from the computer..
