High speed train derails in Spain

What I don't understand with all of these technologies available, why can't they put in speed sensors along the rail before each curve with speed limitation and when these sensors sense excessive speed, kill the power to the train as safety precaution or something like that. This feature in case of an idiot engineer failed to plan negotiate (Like slow damn down) with curve coming ahead,

What I heard was the section with the unsafe curve is fairly new and the information had not yet been inputted into their Rail Management system or whatever it is called.

I dunno really, there should be "Fail-safe" system in place when it comes to high speed whatever.

I heard on the news that guy said he had always be fascinating by speed and I think that is another reason he was going way too fast. It was criminal what that guy did.

Wow...never read that...I hope it's not true. That would be cold to treat passengers like guinea pigs.

I heard on the news , and thought that guy used the train as a weapon. That is no difference than going into movie with a loaded gun!

Unbelievable the guy was going 95 MPH and should had been only going 50 MPH and he was also texting at the same time ! And he killed over 70 people ! And I have no idea how many people where hurt . The guy was texting 22 seconds before the train crashed.

There are still some people in critical condition as well, that driver is certainly responsible.

He got a call from his "boss" who should have known better than to call while the train was in motion. There is talk that the railroad may also be charged for it's part in the accident.

I hate misleading headlines. Yes, he was on the phone, but not everyone will read the whole article to find out the details that may clarify things.

I mean, yes his controller called him. So maybe he though it was important. Answer the phone, find out if it's an emergency and if not tell them you'll call them later because you're driving a drain with hundreds of people on it. Seems like you'd have to be distracted for a little more than a few seconds to make a mistake like happened here.

if he txing that bad....i think in uk trains got something called dead mans handle breaks over rides if take hand off or go to fast.

I don't know why the train didn't slow down when it's going over the limit. The train should force to slow down if there's no response. It's almost like semi autopilot control.
