Hi. I'm just wondering has anybody living in their apartments tried to find other Internet Service Providers available for their apartment other than companies in their area? It's for those who don't watch TV but only use the Internet.

Here's my example: I've been with Comcast as of September 2006 and have been paying $110+ for HD programming (I only watch about 5 to 10 HD channels excluding Premium, like HBO), so a couple of months ago, I wanted to quit watching TV altogether. My dad told me that I get a better deal if I get High Speed Internet for $43 plus basic cable for $10 and with tax, that comes up to $57. But with HSI only, I'll be charged like $60 plus tax. Thus, I don't like being forced to pay for cable TV service, since I don't watch basic channels anymore.

This leads me to checking for DSL services in my area, but there aren't any. Only Comcast High Speed Internet.

While Embarq does provide phone service (landline), no DSL for me. But if I were to pay $30 for non-long distance basic phone service, I'm subjected to a credit check and a ~$52 one time charge, which is nor worth it since I'm planning to move to Orlando starting January of 2009 (Osceola County).

I'd wish Comcast can provide 6mbps down/768kbps up but this may not mean the cost will go down to $21.95. But if it would, this would help me out with my money. But 12mbps is the only one available...

HMMM that interest article,grayson peddie

my boyfriend lives his own apartment and he pay his own bills for tv,electric, water, etc but im sure he have computer in his apts between me and him because he from London,England im from North Little Rock but im been e-mail him lots every weeks sometinmes he busy at work allday and he still in shift at factory but he told me says he workalcholic!

Well, I'm talking specifically about Internet-only. I mean, no need for TV service or landline, but just Internet.

So, my question is, would you spend $10 for a cable TV service that you never watch?

I don't consider my first post as an article, though. :)

If you have no DSL service in your area then it means your apartment don't have DSLAM that allows DSL to be pass in, if too far away from DSLAM then DSL will be very slower.

Just sticking with comcast as no optional, most area has contract that exclusive to only services.

I'm using Time Warner. The apartment I live in lets people pick their own company if that company supports that area.
