High gas prices boost motorcycle sales

Yea, that is what is holding me back from riding one regularly. Not that I had to deal with the crazies personally yet as I don't have a motorcycle endorsement. I have heard/seen too many things that make one hesitate about motorcyles. If I do ride, it will be rural excursions or open highways away from traffic.

Yeah, I would. Life's too important to risk it on the motorcycle.

By the way, my brother had a serious motorcycle accident by a drunk lady that broke his ankle and lost a good deal of blood. He had a friend passenger along and was into coma a little while and broke her leg.

That driver even had drunk accidents before that plus a few more before she was finally put into prison for good.

Everyone has their own personal comfort zone, and when it gets to the point where you feel as if you're endangering your life on a motorcycle then it's definately time to get out of it.

OTOH, I've been riding motorcycles for decades, and that includes lane-splitting through the San Francisco Bay Area commuter traffic without one incident although I've had my share of close calls.

I'd rather continue riding motorcycles than sit on the couch channel surfing.

I lost a good friend when a drunk driver hit his HD Shovelhead head-on. Unfortunately, motorcycle/car/truck accidents do cause injuries and death, but it's ironic that folks continue talking about m/c accidents and discourage riding motorcycles yet think nothing of getting in their car despite all the car accidents out there.

We've far too many drunk drivers on the road. Even when their licenses are taken away, they continue to drink and drive. :rl:

That is my biggest beef as well. Short of throwing them into jail (and they are crowded enough), how do you stop them?

Not Looking For a Fight...

Motorcycle's insurance is very higher than sport car.

*cough cough*

Motorcycle insurance is rediciously higher than sport cars and SUV...

Motorcycle is bad.... also most are poor fuel economy.

*cough wheeze cough cough*

Issuing a blanket statement like that is absurd.

I see that there are two camps on this here - those saying motorcycle insurance is higher and the others who are saying it's the other way around. I'll chime in only because I want both camps to know that they're both right.

It is more expensive than a sportscar WHEN you're young, inexperienced, male and want full coverage. Why? Statstics indicate you're going to crash within weeks if not months. I once was quoted at over $22,000 from McGraw (one of the biggest motorcycle insurance companies) to fully insure one of my motorcycles for a single year when I was younger. My sportscar? $220 a month back then. Now that same motorcycle costs me about $580 for the full year with full coverage just because I got older, cleaned up my driving record and gained riding experience. Chew on that for a while guys.

I have been riding non-stop for the past 14 years. I have ridden across America, primarily used motorcycles as my main source of transportation, and even raced them on tracks. I've owned choppers, cruisers, standards, sportbikes, duals and a super-motard.

if you got crotch rocket then that is whole different story. I hate crotch rockets, I view only jerks owns and ride on them.

I guess you think I'm a jerk already even though we've never met or talked to each other before. :thumbd: Or did you want to retract that statement of yours? Sterotyping is lame. I don't like the squids out there, and I certainly don't appreciate being clumped in with those idiots just because most of my motorcycles are "crotch rockets". With a user name like yours, I'd think you'd be wiser and realize that motorcycling is about riding what makes you the happiest, whether it be a CL70, a turbo-charged Hayabusa, a hardtail harley with a 240 tire out back, or even a *gasp* Goldwing.

Two wheels. Motor between your legs. An open road in front of you. That's what it's all about. Hopefully we will be able to agree on that, DieHardBiker.

P.S. Pac Man, the average 600+ cc motorcycle out there gets 30-50 mpg easy.
