High gas prices boost motorcycle sales

that's pretty expensive, it used to be 60 cent, but they bumped it to 70.

beside, why is everyone telling me to ride the bus? do I look intrested? I rather drive myself whereever I want to go myself.

It's wasn't expensive in LACMTA, I only paid $1.50 per day for ride on metro bus (including metro rapid) , light rail, subway and busway rail. It was cost for disabled like deaf, blind and people cannot walk. We can get E-Z metro pass for $58 per month but I don't need it though. There's metrolink, it's commuter rail but that pointless to get in becauses monthly passes are rediciously expensive... stupid commuter rail... Coasters are commuter train that transfer from Metrolink, then stop at Oceanside and transfer to Coasters then go on way to San Diego... It's good for weekend but weekday is no way... E-Z metro passes that good for ride in anytime, for LACMTA and all cities in LA County that offers own public transportation but OCTA is public transportation that can take in around OC, both of them are separated.

Heath, If gas prices are $5 per gallon then you will be end up with car because you from middle of nowhere in PA. That's not my problem but public transportation in LA is good, SF is great too. Freeway in Toronto looks too wide, like 401.

Honestly, You wouldn't feel so well to driving in LA because traffic is bad, alot worse than Toronto. Metro bus are driving around freeway too but people are just enjoy in traffic congestion then don't forget to bring your PSP and play PSP in bus when traffic is congestion, metro bus for all freeways and roads are not perfect because they are still stuck in traffic as same with cars did. I don't care about it but I just bring my backpack with PSP then play it in bus and walk out around LA.

Yea, I have drive license but I don't drive alot though.

I don't work down town, no need for highway.

can't drive yet anyway. i bike to work.

I disagree, I have been owning motorcycles and it is IMPOSSIBLE that motorcycles insurance are more expensive than cars. These sport cars carries the HIGHEST premium rate on insurance of all vehicle! With one exception... if you got crotch rocket then that is whole different story. I hate crotch rockets, I view only jerks owns and ride on them.

I have Goldwing, and I am able to bring at least 7 bags of groceries on my Goldwing even with passenger in back of me!!!

Not smart move.

Motorcycle's insurance is very higher than sport car.

Not save your life from accident.

Not for family.

Not easy to carry foods, items, etc..

How about rain, snow and fog?
Been there done that through rain and foggy... but as for snow? I'd have to try that heh OFC NOT!

this is one reason why i want to buy a motorcycle.. but my GF will :slap: me

i'm gonna wait and wait till ATV becomes street legal just like Europe!
2 hours of ride on ATV on average speed only cost me $1.50 to fill it up :D

Er...very logical that gas prices would up the demand for motorcycles especially in warmer areas of the country. Heck, even up north it would be justifiable if one could get four to five months of use.

While motorcycles do have fuel economy benefits, it doesn't solve the real problem. America's addiction to oil... We need to address that soon or this country will be in for very painful times.
I've been riding bikes since I was 17. I have rode in the rain, snow sleet and hail. Not out of necessity and getting hailed on is no fun whilst on a bike. One thing that I have said for many years is that we need to cut our dependencies on fossle fules. Now for the cynical bastard in me. I believe that we could have had alternatives years ago but big oil has prevented this. Perhaps I am wrong but I just can't believe with the technology and sharp minds that are out there, we don't have more alternatives than we do now. Maybe this corn thing will take off.

yeah but this corn thing the "E-85" fuel doesn't do any big difference.. it also makes ur gas mileage down by 20% but the advantage of it is clean no pollution.

but there's many disavantage of it.. for example.. not many gas stations have those in my home town almost all gas stations have it but the problem is that the other towns around don't have it.. i never seen one gas station in twin cities have E-85 fuel. i guess its just a start but seems like most small towns have it because the corn fields are around small towns.. and the fuel "e-85" factory is in small towns.
and yeah the gas price for "e-85" is about 50 cents cheaper than regular fuel.. however to me.. its the same as regular gasoline prices because the "e-85" gives less miles per gallon on ur car.

Good points. I wasnt sure about the price of it. As far as avalability, I am sure it will increase as time goes on. Is it the silver bullet? Probably not. Since the earth is 2/3 water why not come up with something that utilizes this virtually endless resource. I have seen tests in labs with electricity and water that create pretty massive explosions that might be used in combustion engines. Intersting stuff.

Speaking of 2/3 on earth is water. That is the fact! As it stands right now, GM is doing research on Hydrogen fuel cell, 2/3 of water contains Hydrogen, and it is highly flammable gas! So, hopefully they find a way to extract Hydrogen, then when it gets out of the cylinder it turns back to water again. Cool, eh?

That's what I'm talkin about..... Lets get er done. I bet big oil somehow blocks this. Bastards!!!

No, Oil companies isn't blocking them. It is going on right now not far from my home. If EVER Hydrogen fuel, or any other alternative fuel for car have become successful, I bet you Oil companies won't lose business anyway! Know why? Oil have tons of uses. Gas is just one of hundred, or thousands list of uses from oil. Don't you forget tires are made from oil, we can't go without tires, asphalt road are made from oil too, plastics are from oil too, and I could go on with the list. I don't think oil companies really care about these alternative fuel research at all.

Er...I have to disagree a little here. Big oil has a vested interest in keeping their monopoly alive and well. The bulk of their profits come predominately from cars. If there were no cars using oil (in the form of gas), then they would have to find other markets and products to maintain fat margins (would not be simple to do...). I do agree that oil has many uses and is not substituted easily.

They do care about what comes of alternative fuel research and in fact are investing heavily into it. They certainly aren't going to want to see themselves left behind at the station. If they don't keep up with new development, they will shrink in importance and I can't see them giving it up just like that. It isn't going to happen. I'm quite sure they are looking ahead to diversify so they can hedge their bets and keep the good times rolling (as in rolling in dough).

I will agree that big oil isn't the only guilty party...some of the reasons are...

1) Unintelligent energy policy - Is anybody willing to force the issue instead of limping along in the path of least resistance?
2) Lousy political leadership - both parties...can anybody buy a good idea?
3) Joe Q. Public won't give up his car(s) - Heck! Don't even think about it!
4) Big oil - monopoly - We got you were it hurts!
5) Car manufacturers - What?!?! You want higher mileage cars...What are you nuts? And you want to use something else other than gas?
6) Tourism - Don't you mess up our view of the ocean with those derricks way out there!!! Same problem is you suggest windmills too!

I'm sure we can continue but you get the idea...

I agree... Motorcycle insurance is rediciously higher than sport cars and SUV, some people told me about alot of complain with issues for motorcycle.

Motorcycle is bad to ride in rain, snow and other horrible weather, also most are poor fuel economy.
