So, um hi! My name is Whitney, and I am an aspiring actress. I'm hearing, but that hearing is going down. I have tinnitus, have for 5 years now and suddenly feel like someone is covering my ears with their hands. Haven't been to a specialist, but my doctor said my ears looked weird. So, trying to not freak out but I'm freaking out anyway. I'm learning asl and telling myself it's because I've always wanted to but I know it's because I'm preparing for when my world goes silent. Not as absolutely terrified as I was at first but still scared. So, yeah.

Your doctor said your ears look weird??

Where did he go to medical school?

He said the tubes in my ear were puckered. And that meant that there was something wrong, but he couldn't figure out what with the stuff he had. ... If that makes sense. But yeah. He looked in and said "your ears are weird. Huh" :)

there is nothing to be afraid of it will take some getting used to but ull make it :laugh2::wave:

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not nearly as scared as I was before I knew of Sean Berdy and Marlee Matlin. I didn't want to switch dreams, but now I realize I don't have to. Some days are better than others.... Yesterday was a little bad. Some days I'm almost excited. No more dogs barking! Or car alarms! But some days... I know I'm gonna miss being in one room and listening in on my dad's phone conversation and figuring out who he's talking to. And music. I know that I'll still be able to enjoy it, just... It'll be different. Sorry I wrote a book back :) but thanks so much!

 Hi!

I think the doctor's diagnosis is weird ! What kind of diagnosis is that , it's not a medical term. A doctor told my parents I had a nasty hearing lost , this was around 1966 . You would think doctors would be more advance today in giving a diagnosis . Is there any collages close to you so could take some ASL classes in the summer?

Um, I don't think so. I live in a small town with a small Deaf community. I tried to talk to one of the girls I went to high school with, but pretty sure she thinks I'm a dumb hearie. But I've heard that Gallaudet offers online ASL classes, so I'm going to try that. The doctor said that he didn't have the equipment there to figure out exactly what was wrong and that I needed to go to a specialist. We haven't been able to get an appointment with an ent or audiologist yet. He said that my eustatian(spelled wrong) tubes were puckered and that it was a problem... This was a minor emergency clinic, so equipment is limited. He just had that light thingy. I've been going there for years and he said that with the amount of ear infections and concussions I've had he doesn't think this is something that's gonna clear up. I went in because I had a massive headache and couldn't hear anything for like 30 minutes. It hurt really badly and deep into my ears... Both of them. And it hasn't been much better since. That was about a month ago. My hearing is muffled and my ears feel like I need to pop them but can't. I am trying to schedule an appointment with an ear nose and throat dr. but I've been trying to just finish high school. Now I'm out, I have more time. So, yeah. I will keep y'all posted. Y'all will know something as soon as I do. I guess it could be nothing, but I really doubt that. Like I said, I'm not absolutely terrified anymore; I'll adjust. It's not the worst thing that could happen.

Thanks to all that have replied! I'm feeling a lot less scared. With friends like these, who needs hearing anyway! :)

So really he said you have Eustachian tube dysfunction.

But if you had a severe headache with no hearing for 30 minutes, he should be having you checked for tumors. It seems kind of irresponsible to me not to do so.

Idk. He gave me antibiotics and said that if that didn't clear it up to go to an ent and it obviously didn't clear up. Would there be a tumor on both sides though? Seems unlikely. Idk. Maybe I'm worried about nothing... I'm good at that. All I know is since that day my hearing hasn't been good.

No, there could be a tumor in the brain that affected hearing, and yes it would do both sides, cortical deafness.

You probably will need a surgery to restore your hearing. Look up "Myringotomy" or "Pressure Equalization Tubes".
