5 Winter Weather Tips for your pets

1.) Protect those paws
Keep paws and fur clean from salt, antifreeze and other toxic chemicals used outside during colder months. Wipe paws after each walk or pick up some paw protectors at Unleashed by PETCO.

2.) Tuck them in
Keep your pets warm and cozy with a sleeping area away from cold drafts.

3.) Let them tag along
Don't leave your pet in the car. When the engine is turned off, a car keeps cold air in like a refrigerator.

4.) Don't get on thin ice
Keep dogs leashed around the water. The ice that forms on rivers, lakes and ponds might be too thin to support your pet.

5.) Limit outdoor playtime
Especially senior and younger pets are more susceptible to the effects of cold weather.

All good advice.

I agree that it is a good advice for the pet owners. Yesterday, one of my hearing friends told me that she was locked out of the house and office (along with all 4 dogs) for over an hour. She was barely moving.. and she needed to get one of the dogs to the vet as soon, which she did.. and they told her that one of the dog got some frostbite from being out in the cold for so long. Poor doggie, I hope you feel better by now. :(

My dog joined my son and I sledding. She enjoyed running and jumping in the snow. During the winter months, we put her in the basement while we are at work.

If you are against supporting Petco, another solution for protecting tender feet are baby booties with a piece of cardboard tucked inside. K-mart sells them in 6 or 12 packs. I used these when I was training a pug to cross the street safely and not drag her owner into danger.
