Help for my sister please?

we both live in Brunswick Ohio, which is a suburb of Cleveland. 44212
I would advise you contact the Deaf Services in Cleveland. I believe deaf/hard-of-hearing residents in Ohio are entitled to free services known as Deaf Equipment Modification Program (DEMP).

I don't know if one would need to be Catholic to receive such services from the Cleveland Catholic Deaf Center, but it won't hurt to try.

Radio Shack has several equipments that the deaf can use such as Fone Flasher 2 (for telephone).

Thank you all so much. You have all been such a big help!!
At least I know where to start now.

Sorry...forgot to answer...no wax in her ears. She has been to so so many doctors and hearing specialists.
She is my sister and also my best friend, and I miss gabbing with her on the phone.

Bearrwthme, I know where Brunswick is, I live in Cleveland, and I would suggest you to contract Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, they will help you get a phone flasher for free with no charge or a little amount of money those who's living in Ashland, Crawford, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Richland,Trumbull, and Wayne counties. ;)

They sucks, I've brought one from Radio Shack before, it didn't last long for me, so I brought a flasher from Harris Communication.

Absolutely. You beat me to it Brian! Glad I saw your post before I replied!:giggle: The only thing I would add is that one does not need to be Catholic to receive services from the center.

My left ear is a 100% deaf. And i had surgery for a cochlear implant on my left ear when i was 8 or 9 years old. And i can hear alot better with the cochlear implant, since my left ear is 100% deaf. Maybe you should think about having her to get a cochlear implant. Or to learn sign language to communicate. I have my cochlear implant for maybe about 5 or 6 years so far. I'm 14. But it has helped me alot to hear the things that i couldn't hear before. You should go to your audilogist and talk about the cochlear implant and what you should know about it. But I can tell you, if she's 100% deaf, there's a chance that a cochlear implant might help her hear again instead of hearing aids.

She is 69 years old. I think that she is too old to get the CI. I am sorry to say that. Two hearing aids are better for her. Some hearing aid brands are very small, and it is difficult to adjust the sounds with elder's fingers. Maybe, she could buy cheap hearing aids from a catalog for now to see if they work for her. It's like about 50 dollars. Usually, some audiologists are bullshit.

The fancy hearing aids are awful expensive. If she loses them, they are gone forever. My grandmother had a thick roll of dollars in her bra, and her money fall off inside the mall. :cold:

My friend was 76 years old when he had the CI. He is able to hear 70 percent. Actually, he moved to Florida for his retirement home. He is brattish to tell some deafies at a deaf club about his CI and cheap taxes. Oh, well!

Thirded on seeing about CI. Even if she is kinda an ambigious canidate, there's also the fact that she has tintuas.....CIs can help with tintituas.
Also, is she a member of Hearing Loss Association of America? (formally SHHH) They have a ton of good info.

Oh I see.

I'm sorry...what is HAS?

If you mean her phone, she has one that we call a number then also dial in her phone number, and it has a screen for the words she has to read.

I believe you're referring to the Captel phone by Ultratec. I have one. Works great! Anyway your initial post was about hearing the phone ring. If the ringer volume isn't loud enough for her to hear, either an amplified ringer or a light (flashing/strobe) ringer would help. I'm guessing the flashing/strobe light would be best if she's losing too much of her hearing. You can get that at any deaf products store including Harris Communications or look online, lots of sources for that.

Another thought .. if she has a cell phone that she carries on her regularly, could you text her to tell her you're calling so she knows to go to her Captel phone?

I wonder, is Radio shack deaf-friendly?

Oh yeah, Radio Shack is very deaf-friendly. I went Radio Shack for many times for over 10 years at few different locations.

Nothing do with Radio Shack. They just sell product, not make.
