Hi everyone!
I found this site while looking for how to sign
John 3:16 for my deaf son Alek (he's 6 - and just started bible school, although I am the only one there to teach him :()

He has a cochlear Implant, though I personally don't like it, just because even after having it for 2 years, he still isn't comfortable with it. He wears it all day at school (sometimes giving the teachers problems with wearing it, he has good days and bad days...) Then at home it is a fight everyday for him to keep it on through dinner etc.

Sometimes he acts as if it hurts him, other times he is excited to wear it. (he confuses me).

Ay suggestions as to why he may be acting this way would be greatly appreciated. I am going to post this elswhere since I know some people don't read the "new here" forums.

Nice to meet all of you!!

Hello :) Your sons so Cuties!!!

I am sure here will help you about CI :)

Hi I Love My Deaf Son! Great to hear from parents of dhh kids!
Is Aleck in Deaf Ed? He may benifit more from a regional magnet program or a specific deaf school, rather then traditional mainstreaming.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. Do not fight with him if he does not want to use the CI. I was forced to wear my hearing aid and I do not like to wear hearing aid that much when I was young girl. Both my parents want me to wear the hearing aid all the time. If I feel like in the mood to wear my hearing aid, then I will do it. Just give him space when he need to wear it. He really does not have to have his CI on all the time. He knows about deafness than you know because you have never been deaf yourself. You will learn a lot from us Deafies on our experiences with our deafness. So I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. See you around.

Hi and welcome. You will find several hearing parents of deaf children here some of which have cochlear implants. As far as why your son is acting out could be any number of reasons including the fact that kids are kids. Hopefully it's not causing him any pain. Do you see any indications that the CI is effective? My son had a CI at 18 months implanted incorrectly and then a second. Unfortunately neither was effective. All the best!
