What type of murder was he charged with?
Could he be charged with a different type of murder charge, permitted by the State of California?
In short, the answer is no. He was charged with first degree murder and aquitted. Under the law, no other charge fits the crime. At best, second degree murder wouldn't even come close to fulfilling what happened to them.
But, also, remember... He's been convicted of burglary/robbery. He's serving a lenghly sentence for that. He's also in his 60s now. This is still payback; in that, he has forfeited his freedom and is now labelled a convicted felon. Something that, I'm sure, he never thought would happen.
