Debate here! Have fun but be nice, and that includes you miss p.

Well, if I recall correctly... it's an occasion where the spirits cross over. Nothing to do with witches and goblins, that was just a theme made up by the candy makers.

Just enjoy for hallowen fun!!!

of course other relgions disagree w/Halloween some of their reasons...

Depends!
As for me.. Doesn't matter as long my children are enjoy and having fun look forward the haunted house and hunting the pumpkins and also much more...

I only enjoy All Hallow's Eve for the paganist aspects of it. Its good for children to learn to grow up to be good little witches and warlocks.

I think that it is bad for children, because candies contains too much sugar and that causes cavities.

I do not think Halloween is bad for children, trick and treating should be a fun experience with a lot of children running, laughing and of course having a good time showing off their costumes, but most important children should be aware of safely tips cuz you know children are at higher risk of dangerous when they are unsupervised. There are strange people out in the world, Gotta be safe than sorry. ;)

There are also Halloween parties where children play some fun games, It's not about monsters or evil, it's about children having fun just like any other holidays. :)

I am with you Cheri

As for safety.

Always check the kids's candies for any suspious *sp*.

Make sure they carry flash light

Make sure their faces are not cover well so they can see there they are going.

Make sure they are wearing any light color or refection customs so the driver can see them.

Parent or older person who with the group of kids to go trick or treat for their safety sakes.

I remmy I was with my friend and sibling for trick and treat all over the town where I live. Yea there are some street with no light.

That is another thing tell the kids to stay away from the dark area and not to go to the house where there is no outside light.

well there are actually people that believes in witchcrafts as an religion children in halloween is pretty much in danger in halloween since their belief is this they need to kidnap kids kill them and make sacrfice for their freaky worshipping also there s an satan worshipper out there thinking killing kids ll help them make themself powerful kidnapping and murders is increasing in really huge level so i ll perfer not to elt my kids go to trick or treating with out an candy taster first in casae some are poisoned or have needles inside that happens all too many timesit happened to me once when i was little never went out trick or treating again hope this debate helps

I'm with Cheri and Pomeranian...It just fun for the children to go out trick and treat and they always seem to have a good time too....Kids are being kids!

So for myself I don't think Halloween is that bad, as long as it doesn't scare the kids too much....

Halloween culturally has changed from a superstious night in Europe to a fun night for American children. Kids learn ancient history of what was believed in times long ago, and then get dressed up and enjoy the evening in modern style.

I see nothing wrong with kids dressing up and receiving candy with parent guidence and supervision. It's fun and it encourages "make believe" which fosters imagination and creativity.

Halloween was started in Germany around 4 to 5 years ago. My children LOVES it... Alot of children in village where I live is friendly & don't mind to give children candies, most children in village where I live, wear spooky, vampire, etc customs but some of other villages don't like Halloween... (Old German Tradition do not accept Halloween)...

I'm agree with others here that it's good for children to enjoy their Halloween... I see nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, Halloween is FUN!!!! There are some people who don't celebrate Halloween b/c they believe it's the devil's birthday or something....Ummmm...OK. Whatever......

depends if your child has allergies that can lead to death.

I love halloween also as long as it's good clean fun with no real murder or craziness around.

we should be extra careful of what strangers gives out to the kids during halloween too.

I believe that when kids get home from trick or treating, parents should first check their bags and look through all the candies and see if there's anything strange, toss it away.

I think it's fun... Thanks to Anoka, MN- It was one that started this whole thing in USA- If it wasn't for Anoka, MN, then what would we celerbate? Heck, we all should have fun! By the way I met Mayor of Anoka last weekend (sorry if its off topic, but here is pic of me with Mayor Bjorn Skogquist of Anoka, where the Halloween orginally started in USA).

I usually take my daughter to the mall for trick or treating.. I live out in the country.. not many houses around..

Make sure you check all the candies before your kid/kids eat it.

Edit: Forgot to add... I think its good for the children to have a good time dressing up at this time of the year.

interesting responses. lol, i just asked that questin because i was writing an essay for that topic. I have a chance to win 20 dollar Chapter Certificate. So i will see if i win or not. hehe.

I found some stuff at Livescience and Snopes about the stories of things like needles, razors and poison in candy. Snopes has an undetermined truth status for it. The other one says that there had been no confirmed cases of strangers giving out bad candy. There had been two where it was a bad parent who did it, like Ronald Clark O'Bryan who put cyanide in his son's candy and killed him in 1974. He also put poison in other kids' candy to attempt to make it look like it was from a random bad person out there. He was using the story as a cover. There was a Kevin Toston in 1970 who died from a heroin overdose. It turned out that it was his uncle who had heroin and the kid found and took the drug. The family put heroin onto the candy to make the cops think it was a random candy poisoner and to try to keep them from finding that the uncle was a drug user.
They also say that getting candy X-rayed is a waste of the x-ray stuff and your time because it won't detect poisons and it would be easier to look at the candy and throw it away if it looks strange. And they have a greater chance of being hit by a car.
