wow... damn I should get one but... I don't know ASL. I guess I better practice it then!

You might be eligible for VP 100 though....ASL is easy to learn but.

Yes, but they will organise a techincal staff to come to you to have the VP installed. But ASL is the priority.

dang.... I guess it's not that simple... Better take some ASL lessons soon. Would like to practice ASL with some of you guys via webcam or whatsoever!

Jiro, do you use other sign languages like PSE, SEE, etc?

I don't know any form of sign languages. I'm HOH and I lip-read. I don't have any single deaf/HOH friend or anybody that I communicate in sign language. so yea....

No, they do not mail it out to you, Someone will come to your place of home and set it up for you, and explain to you how to use it. ;)

if it's all free.... how do they make money?

It's funded by the FCC and government. VP isn't meant for sale like buying a DVD player, TV, etc for entertainment. Deaf people need it to communicate to others which is like a replacement of a TTY.

It's the same thing as borrowing the tdd from the state.

Yes, if you are in the United States and your ASL is your first language, then you are eligible to get a free VP - 200 from them.

Ha - English's my first language, but I can do ASL also .... and I still got VP-200 for free. A friend of mine who used to work at Sorenson came over to my place and installed it for me.

Umm..English is my first language and I got my VP...guess I broke the rules. :giggle:

One oral deaf person got a VP..he didnt know any sign languages but is learning so I dont think it matters. :dunno:

Then I must be wrong, I believe they have changed the rules to be more efficent to deaf and HOH, eh?

I dont know...all I know is that I know this guy who doesnt know sign language and we have chatted on VP without signing. It was hard for me cuz it is a habit for me to sign with other deaf people. LOL!

Phone number or IP address - either way's easy LOL

Since I have made this thread, unfortunately, I have bad news. The VP I got didn't work down here, I have tried everything, turns out that the VP might be a faulty.

In other hands, I still have a VP working, I bought a new (2nd) external webcam (Mircosoft LifeCam VX - 3000 - For now) which is hooked via my LCD TV and I have Viable Vision supported on my computer and it makes an excellent VP. So if anyone who knows me well, and I do know you well. PM me if you want to chat via VP (Will need your IP Address, I am the only way I can call you directly to your VP) :)

I wonder if that faulty VP is PAL or NSTC. If NSTC maybe you can try adjust your tv to auto so it can use either PAL or NSTC. Just a thought.

It is NTSC version but unfortunately the trouble is the power adaptor, I think the power inside my VP blew up
