Hi guys, I need your opinion and I need to vent.

I started a fun new job a couple months ago working with adults with developmental disabilities. It's been great. I work with adults with developmental disabilities in their home and help them with day to day life. I was hired for ONE house. Well one of the other houses needed help, they asked me to help and so I did. (45 minutes away) Then both houses became my job. lol. Each house has a supervisor. I have two supervisors.

Well over this past weekend, one of my close relatives ended up in the ER with appendicitis and it had ruptured and the infection spread all over. He was sick. Today I hear that he's not doing any better. Today is also my scheduled shift at the house 45 minutes away. I texted my boss to see if I could come in later so I can go help out, see my relative and also do chores at his ranch.

She texted me back, and said don't come in at all, I already signed and totalled your timecard, see you next week. I am supposed to work 2 days straight. (22 hours) Then I asked her why can't I come in? She said she wasn't going to call someone in for a partial shift, and that I needed to work my own shift. I understand that, but why did she sign my card already? Then I asked her if for future reference if I could trade shifts with someone if this were to happen again. She said no.

Ok, what makes me so frustrated is, when I got hired on, she told me to call her if I needed to change schedules, she'd work around it then when I do call her for help, she's sort of mean about it, then she goes ahead and takes 22 hours away from me. What gets me is, I drive 45 minutes twice just to be the fill in.

Maybe I am over reacting, maybe I am just stressed with finals this week, hospitals and the list continues. I just need a big fat hug and a good cry.

Here is a big fat hug for you, and that doesn't sound fair to me at all. After all, this was a family emergency, and you are entitled to emergency time off without being penalized.

Under federal law, employers are obligated to give you time off if the emergency involves a parent or employee's own children. Anyone else, you're screwed.

Yep!! Here :grouphug: too ;)

Thank you guys for all the hugs! I certainly needed after the day I have had. LOL. It got better this afternoon. :) Ya'll are such a great group of people.

:grouphug:I hope you feel better and relax with a nice bubble bath with nice smells and indulge in chocolates or a good book while you soak :)

<big hugs> gee that employer of yours isn't nice, I mean after all, you were doing a favour working both places when you were only hired to do one house. She should be more understanding and change your schedule a bit instead of telling you not to bother coming in.

I've never had a boss do that to me, I guess I've been lucky ;-) most of the jobs I worked in, my bosses were pretty nice. Well actually I did have one crappy boss but his head secretary ran the show really, so she was the one I answered to, and the secretary was pretty flexible ;-)

Jasmine4lakshmi, I hope that one day, your boss might decide she had been a bit harsh, and she puts extra money in your pay ;-)

Thank you, you are right. Maybe my boss will give me extra money, or at least be nice to me.

Boy, that is so unfair, i know but if i was you,
i just go on and take it like you did and one day,
you will be rewarded, believe me.

Hugs to you, sweetie!

Looks like she is not doing her end of the job! She advised you to contact her about emergency schedule changes, then turns around to give you a mean guilt trip! Not your fault hon, make her understand what she discussed with you. Here's a hug!

Your boss' mean as if you'v got enough things to worry about!!

Hope your alright now!!

Take care

Maybe she's having the same thought as you are.

Frustration, but both of you held it in. Shame Shame.
