Woman swallows cell phone during assault
The assault trial of Marlon Brando Gill, 24, of Kansas City, has begun Wednesday for a strange episode happened the last December. Gill is accused of shoving a cell phone down his girlfriend's throat after an argument because he was angry and jealous.
Gill's girlfriend, 25-year-old Melinda Abell, testified Tuesday that she couldn't remember how the phone got in her throat, stating that she was drunk when the incident occurred. She also said she could not recall writing a statement to police, just after being taken to the local emergency room to remove the phone, in which she said: "I think he thought I'd been talking to other guys...he took my phone to see who I had been calling".
On the other side, Gill's defense attorneys maintained that the woman swallowed the phone intentionally to keep the defendant from seeing whom she had been calling.
During the first hearing Abell also testified about how she has been verbally and physically abused by Gill during their relationship, although she never told police about the abuse and continued to live with Gill until the cell phone incident.
