General Deaf Audience

So you are telling me that I should doubt my own personal friends that moved from one job to the other and explaining in full detail about how the company worked. And I see the same pattern from other friends as well?

Yeah, I will take their word.

Actually I do doubt my own friends when they have a personal agenda against a company like Sorenson, it's called hearsay.

I am very sure you know of hearsay- it's always coloured judgment based on emotional thinking and flawed logic.

If not for Sorenson, any other corporation- to have a good lawsuit against any corporation that a person feels wronged against, sharing hearsay is the very last thing to do and especially on this forum, IMHO.

You do want to keep those information confidential and within a group of co-workers to have a good lawsuit and so forth.

I do understand loyalty and your feelings. I'd be the same thing, believe me.

To you, I sound like I am siding with Sorenson but it is the very last thing. I am trying to make you see my POV. Yes you will take their word for sure, that's loyalty.

I am Deaf.

I was one of the final two in the interview process, and the other candidate for the job had prior experience from another VRS company.

Thanks for the clarification.

This does put much more introspect into this debate.

You see how you have jaded perspective into the VRS industry?

Your friends are going into this emotional journey and you're relating well with them hence this debate.

The thing I am doing right now is spreading awareness of the situation. That is what I want to do.
I want to educate my fellow deaf people that THIS IS HAPPENING, so they can decide on a better service for them.

Not only these interpreters are telling me, I've seen it with my own eyes. And that is more than sufficient to declare it not a hearsay.

I am the judge of my own life - and these people are telling me the same thing (they don't know each other as well) to me, that is not hearsay. They are either IN or have left Sorenson.

Feel free to think that way. Assumption can be a bitch at times.

Jaded perspective - Not really. Matter of a fact I am happy I did not get the job.

This is where I'm really glad you are advocating and making others aware about this because you have on-hand experience.

THAT! I couldn't have said it any better.

Whether I'm assuming or not, I do understand how you feel because we are going through the very same thing here in Canada. Everyone is feeling the very same feelings - we're just so pissed off that we are losing our certified interpreters to the system; parliamentary meetings and Sorenson.

There were "talks" and I mean just teeny weeny talks of having Sorenson in Canada by 2009 and that's been scrapped. It's been either scrapped or moved to 2011. Remember the talks of Sorenson in Canada was planned for 2008, now moved to 2009, scrapped and then rumours are for 2011.

I just won't believe anything until I see something for myself or your words " See something for myself."

So many people have been burned by Sorenson and this is a corporation that does not follow the Code of Ethics. They skirt around this and advertises the AVLIC CoE for interpreters to follow.

It's a very messy battle.

Then it already has affected you, why help the situation out by using their services?

Now I am editing this message because you pretty much just verified what I have been saying.... Why bother saying I am spreading hear-say or "emotional baggage"...

Who says I use their services now? I did in the past. Now I don't.

You have been spreading hearsay based on your friends' words. You need to share your own personal experience "working" for Sorenson. THAT, is what makes your debate solid.

"Emotional baggage" - that's farfetched and grasping at straws now.

I think another thing putting pressure on having non-certified interpreters is that there are so few of them now and we have a domino effect.....on several levels.

It is not just interpreters but also relay operators. Now, they arent certified and they get our personal info by relaying them to different businesses. I have always been nervous about giving out my SSN and other personal info using the relay before VRS was made available.

your average store clerk is not certified either. I used to handle credit cards and SSN (for security reason on personal checks) when I was working as a cashier. I handled credit card numbers when I punch it in when they have a bad card. And they used to print out the entire number too before Bush passed some kind of law that credit card numbers can not be printed out (well at least not the whole thing but the last 4 digit can be printed out)

of course, they hired me because my background is good and I have no criminal records.

VRS need to make sure interpreter can not keep any records (or access to it) and make it a policy that people can not write anything as they interpret.
