EB games would no longer be around online nor in stores much longer after GameStop buys EB.

This is no joke.

I was once GameStop customer (most purchased from online) but switched to EB Games because of good services, better prices, and good stock on old games and accessories.
That's weird. Where I am, Gamestop gives me better service than EB does. In fact, every time I go to Gamestop... they know what I'm talking about. They can find things quickly and answer any question I have. At EB, they stand there like idiots wondering what the hell I'm talking about.

At Gamestop...
Me: "Excuse me, I'm wondering how much Metal Gear Solid 3 costs right now."
Worker: "Let me check..." *typing on computer* (5 seconds pass) "It's about $40 right now. If you want the used version, it's $30."

At EB:
Me: "Excuse me, I'm wondering how much Metal Gear Solid 3 costs right now."
Worker: "Uh... say again?"
Me: "How much is Metal Gear Solid 3?"
Worker: "Umm... Metal Gear... what?"
Me: "Metal Gear Solid 3."
Worker: "Metal Gear Solid 3? Hmm... must be new and not released yet. Let me look that up." *typing on computer*
Me: *walks around store for 5 minutes and return*
Worker: "Don't you mean Metal Gear Solid 2 for Playstation 2?" *he smiles like he found what I was looking for*
Me: "No, I'm talking about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It came out months ago for Playstation 2."
Worker: "Oh... let me check again."
Me: *walks around store for 5 minutes and return*
Worker: "Oh, I found it. It's um..." *looks back at monitor* "... $39.99 plus tax."
Me: "Oh, about $40?"
Worker: "No, $39.99 plus tax."
Me: "O... kay... thanks." *I quickly walk off*

Now, what kind of experience do you call that? Heh!

I thought it was just one mall... until I tried a few other malls. They all were the same as what I experienced at this mall. The same goes for my hometown in Texas.

Odd.... three of EB Games stores I been visited help me to find the old games I had look without problems. Perhaps it's "Bush" or "newbie" ppl you met there (bad joke?). Gaming gal from other gaming forums worked in GameStop stores for part time say working in GameStop is better than EB Games. I still shopping both major stores demands on their services or prices.
Or am I overlooked?

Actually, the people who were working there were young.

I think that when people work for a company, they should have some experience in the field of some sort before working there. If a guy played ONLY "Super Mario Bros" for NES 20 years ago and has never heard of Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, etc... I wouldn't want him working for my store. I want him to be able to acknowledge modern technology and be able to recognize things that customers ask him. When I worked at Blockbuster Video, the worse employees were the ones who never watched movies and had absolutely no idea what the customers were talking about.

I had a customer come in and ask if we any copies of Star Wars available. Know what the employee said?

Worker: "Could you repeat that... Starry what?"
Customer: "Star Wars"
Worker: "Uhh... I don't know that one. Let me look it up." *clicks away on keyboard for 5 minutes* "Is it a movie?"
Customer: "Yes, it's an old movie that's been around since 1976."
Worker: "Oh, that old? Maybe, that's why it's not in the computer. I'm still looking."

Guess what? There were 10 copies sitting on the counter waiting to be put back up for rental. There were also 5 copies ready to be bought nearby. I pointed that out to him.

Worker: "Oh, that's Star Wars?" *makes puzzled face* "Wow, it looks new. How could it be from 1976?"
Me: "It's been around for years. It's one of the most popular movies out there."
Worker: "Well, I've never heard of it. Sorry."

He couldn't help anyone. He had a hard time understanding why specific movies were labeled in specific genres such as action, comedy, drama, etc. He only watched a couple of television shows and was only 40 years old. He eventually quit because it was "too hard" for him.

So, what I'm saying is... if they can't do shit, get the fuck out. I rather see people who know what a Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube is. If I was the manager doing interviews, I'd ask the person to tell me as many game systems he could think of from the last 5 years as well as any games he could think of.

Probably... heh!

They hired him because he seemed older and mature. This was actually a part-time job for him since he already had a full-time job working for some business company. It does make me wonder what company he is actually working for since you'll have to be up-to-date with what's going on out there in the real world in order to have a good job working for some big business company. But then again, his full-time job is probably at home in the garage adding up numbers from people who live down the street. ;)

Bad news (more like dark side): All EB Games outlets and facitilies will be converted to GameStop name or close down and employment layoffs occurs in summer 2006. EB headquarters and warehouses in PA will be closure.

I hate to see EB Games near Borders bookstore close down as GameStop still running across from the street...

It happens.

There is an EB store at my mall in Texas. It started out good, but didn't do well later. They were always advertising games that no one ever buys. When I stand there looking at their televisions with demos on it, I'm thinking... "WTF!? I've never seen that game before! I've never seen this game before!"

Also, the malls here... I usually have an urge to stop by Gamestop before I go to EB. I guess it's cuz Gamestop is more appealing to me. :)

Wow... damn, guess there will be no competition now... I liked EBGames because they usually have the hottest games at 10 bucks or more off the regular price. The Gamestop stores around here and in Chicago, would charge games like 55 bucks to 60 dollars per new title. I would tell them that they are overcharging the games and they said that Gamestop told them to do that. I told them that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all agreed to make games and release them at 49.99 dollars or less. No more than 49.99 and that doesn't include taxes. They were charging 55 dollars PLUS tax, not 55 dollars after taxes. They shrugged and said that there's nothing they can do. I walked out. EBGames were selling the same game I saw at GameStop for 40 dollars, 15 bucks off on the same game shown at GameStop. Also at the stores here in Ohio and in Chicago, I saw most anime titles that are popular, selling at 30 bucks for only a 60 minutes long movie? WTF?! That's a major rip off! I saw the exact same title at Best Buy for 17.99... My GAWD, Gamestop do not know how to price things. Thank god for the online stores, they always take 30 to 50 percent off the retail price.

I never really liked Gamestop because after they bought out Funcoland, I got disappointed because Funcoland was better and had better line of games till Gamestop came into the picture and ruined everything for Funcoland so now that Gamestop is taking over EBGames, that's a sure sign that Gamestop is afraid of competition and they knew that EBGames is operating far better than Gamestop is so they had to do the "Microsoft Takeover" (take over something that strikes as better competition than you). Well best of luck, Gamestop... Hope you succeed in ruining competition and trying to make it the ONLY place to shop for video games a la Hitler and the Third Reich. Sieg Heil, Fuhrer Gamestop!

Eh? Gamestop does that? Where I go, Gamestop has better deals than EB does.

Ebgame store still running in the business located in downtown. I am member of Ebgame to buy Xbox games and accesories.. I checked on Ebgame and Gamestop website no such as the GameStop taking over the Ebgame, nothing in there, probably it's a hoax information about Gamestop taking over the Ebgame store.. Gamestop located at Mall of America.. after I sold the old sega console at funcoland store before they're out of business. Ebgame's apperication just prefectly for me, if I buy the pre-played games they will add warranty cost if the CD is damaged or crashed on my Xbox console, they will replace a CD for free. The GameStop doesn't have a member card it's sucks, better at the EBGame have a member card (EBEdge) to earn credits when I buy the pre-played games.
