Democrats claim it's somehow Bush's fault gas prices are so high. Bush's proposed solution is to increase supply by drilling in ANWR, and freeing up some cash to fund R&D to find new sources of energy.Given that it's Bush's fault gas prices are too high, his proposed solutions must be no good. If so, what do the Democrats propose to get gas prices under control? So what should the Republican Congress should do about high gas prices?

Well ANWR is not a good solution at all...

anyway this link is not about ANWE but DOER act passed by House; http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/7/14/65344/3534

I don't support this DOER act at all. read it to understand why.

Are you a liberal are something? OPEC is Ripping everyone off!!! If we drill our own oil we can only sell it to 2 our neighbors Canada and Mexico. If you want to buy from us you must have a consitution and a democratic free nation. So it wont be sold to tyrants or dictators

Let's not get carried away with calling people "liberals".

*Sigh* I gotta keep repeating myself. Neither side of the debate really has a viable solution to get the prices stablized let alone trying to get them lower. It is really easy for both parties to blame each other if nothing else to keep the heat off them for whatever proposals they come up with. Remember the blame game is one of the best games in Washington.

What do the Republicans propose these days?

1) Get more oil from ANWR and DOER. On the face of it, not a bad idea at least to alieviate the pressure on current world's supply. It probably would stablize gas prices for a while. The idea shouldn't be thought of as a cure but as a "bridge" until we can get into other alternative sources of energy.

2) Pour money into Hydrogen fuel cell research (a.k.a. Hydrogen economy). This is not a bad idea but we won't see anytime soon. We should give the republicans some credit for thinking long term project (which we should have been doing all along with both the Republicans and Democrats the blame for not doing so earlier).

What do the Democrats propose these days?

1) They really want to push the Clean EDGE act to force reduction in oil consumption with no drilling in ANWR and DOER. The focus is more on alternatives and less on oil plus keeping the environment cleaner. While it is laudable in their intent, on the whole the situation will get a whole lot worst before it gets better. They couldn't give a hoot what Joe Q. Public has to pay for gas even if they tax it higher as part of Clean EDGE. Unless there are alternatives means to get to jobs and everyday living, this will flame out the economy big time.

2) The rest is a hash of ideas with non of them really getting serious consideration.

Bottomline: Things will get worst before they get better...you can take that to the bank.

Such is life in the political world. You're right, Boult. We won't.

I think Buck is just blowing smoke, anyway. He's mad, but he won't vote against his beloved Republicans.

Hell, I AM a Republican, but I know when to vote for the people who won't stand up for the ideals I believe in! In this last election, I voted for Bush. BUT, it was a case of .."He scares me more than you do!" I voted for what I thought was the lesser of two evils.

Wanna Bet? :cool2:

I voted to end the tax per gallon.

However, a more feasible solution is Ethanol. :thumb: Too bad corn doesn't grow in your state. Keep driving your suv, you bought it, you can afford the high gas prices, so suck it in already. :dj:

High gas prices have nothing to do with politicians or democrats vs. republicans. Its becuz china, india and USA is sucking up all the available oil and we are starting to max out on the oil--OPEC and other countries cannot not pump up enough oil to mee the demand. Then all the geopolitics going on such as Isreal is bombing Lebendon (sp?) is pushing the barrel of oil prices up. And of course, the oil companies are taking advantage of the $$ bonanza now. :)
