From Obama, the Tax Cut Nobody Heard Of

No big deal. This has happened to me before. Other posters were nice enough to get it for me. :)

Sorry for the detour, Beowulf.

Maybe now we can actually discuss the topic.

Has anyone at all notice the article says that Obama gave a tax cut through less withholding from paychecks? What about those that no longer get a paycheck (i.e. retired)! Here again, a lack of forsight by a dumb guy.

Those who no longer get a paycheck don't have any withholding taken out. What is your point?

There are many working people, not just retirees, who don't have their taxes withheld. As a private contractor, I don't get a paycheck, so I don't have taxes withheld.

I guess the actual cut of the taxes would be that the tax liability has been reduced? That would include those who have taxes withheld, and those who pay taxes directly.

Retired people still pay income taxes on their pensions, whether or not it's withheld.

No, I don't sign up, nor is subscribed to NY Times.

I'm just visit NY Times website as guest and works so fine.

ah. probably regionally-targeted... :dunno:

The post to which I responded was specific to withholding taxes.
Right. That's why the poster asked how the tax cut affected those who don't have withholding. People without withholding still pay taxes, so the question is how the cut affects their tax liability.

Does the cut actually reduce taxes due, or just how much is withheld?

The cut was intended for a specific population...just as Bush's loop holes were intended to benefit the wealthy.

Are you saying the tax cut is only for people who have their taxes withheld but not for people who may be retirees or private workers who don't have withholding, regardless of income level?

Does that specific population include low and middle class retirees and independent workers?

I don't know, Reba. Does it? Did Bush's tax loop homes include low and middle income workers? Or low and middle income retirees and independent workers?

Ok....So, We borrowed money for a "stimulus" then used that loan to reduce payroll tax for American taxpayers. Meanwhile interest is accruing on the loan for the "stimulus" and eventually American taxpayers will have to pay off that loan plus interest.

Welcome to obama's Payday loan service. :)

What does Bush have to do with anything....He is just a baseball fan in Dallas.

Which specific population would that be?

The article says 95%......... :dunno:
