again - the essence is same.

and the anti-mask law relating to KKK.

The essence is not the same.

One was aimed at protestors.
Another was aimed at Muslim women.

The French law bans niqab and burqa. Some women wear a niqab.

yes. this is a modern, progressive nation.... along with public safety in mind. If one has a problem with that, one is free to live in a country that is socially and culturally acceptable to oneself.

except ninjas .. they gotta go.

(yes, I am joking now).

I love that. "If you don't like it, get out!"

Ah...public safety...I've heard that one before...like how it relates to Jim Crow...pogoms...deaf issues...yeaaaaaaah.

I don't know man ... in regards to public safety .... walking down a dark alley in a violent section of the bronx .... would I rather have an unveiled Muslim woman or a veiled ninja?

why can't I eat dog meat??? how is it animal cruelty? what's the difference with cow meat? this is discrimination! :dunno:

The French law wasn't about public safety.

The New York law does not ban the burqa.

I'm sorry you failed to see the point. I guess there's nothing to move on.

Batman is no longer welcome in France.

poor Batman .... we all know the Eiffel Tower is "special" to him.

(yes, still joking).

Even though I might seem to take this issue "lightly" when I am joking. I am just trying to point out that this law was specifically aimed at the Muslim community.

The politicians have made it quite obvious that they will write the law as if it did not discriminate but make it clear to voters that it is aimed at Muslims.

Muslim women are violating no law by practicing their religion. As long as "practicing their religion" is not an affront on other's rights, I do not see a problem.

France's burqa ban in effect next month - CNN
The French Constitutional Council said the law did not impose disproportionate punishments or prevent the free exercise of religion in a place of worship, finding therefore that "the law conforms to the Constitution."

"Given the damage it produces on those rules which allow the life in community, ensure the dignity of the person and equality between sexes, this practice, even if it is voluntary, cannot be tolerated in any public place," the French government said when it sent the measure to parliament in May.

Lawmakers have also cited security reasons for forbidding people from covering their faces in public.

there you go! :)

:giggle: I live in a neighborhood that is largely Muslim on one side and Jewish on the other. I have never seen an Orthodox man or woman with a headcovering and thought, "Oh shit, I need to cross the street!" I've never been to my favorite Lebanese restaurant and thought, "Oh no...I better leave...she's wearing a niqab!" When I attend Jewish religious events, a lot of women wear a headscarf (even if they aren't traditionally religious) and a lot of Israeli and Russian women at my son's school wear a loose wrap or a hat. Many of my friends wear coverings because they are Orthodox or Modern Orthodox. No one cares.

I've worn headscarves. It can be a pretty powerful thing.

No, France didn't ban headscarves, but they thought about it. The hijab in public issue was dropped. It only applies in public schools.

Once upon a time, Jewish men couldn't wear kippot while serving in the armed forces. That was later changed.

public safety my poo. The law in France is all about anti-Muslim sentiment and nothing about safety.

I can't believe how much I've grown to like you!

Free exercise of religion in a place of worship ....

What if you are a Hag Namadian and the earth is your place of worship?

Yup. Next is banning Jewish women from headscarves, the hijab, yeah...anything else...short skirts, maybe? How is that dignified?

sorry but I don't understand your post. I fail to see any relevance or resemblance.
