fiber optic

The faster provider offers the more it cost them anyway and it will always pass to customers. Try get OCX 1 for your home and see how much it would cost you each month. You won't believe how much it would cost you (You really can't afford it).

To better give you idea, it is called bandwidth.

We have two, three, four lane highway. Which carries more cars at given time? two or 4 lanes? We all know 4 lanes highway provides more cars passing at given time right? Is the cost of maintain and upkeeping the 4 lanes highway the same as 2 lanes? Im sure you know the answer is that 4 lanes cost much more than 2 lanes, same principle with Internet connection speed. The more bandwidth the more it cost.

I think the provider is looking for more money for more speed.

I really want Google Fiber. They are faster than FiOS. 1 GB speed. Cheaper price than TWC and FiOS. But Kansas City area only. I hope they will be launched in some cities on future.

I'm sure you asked about the Raspberry Pi before, it's not the solution! It's a tiny PC on a single board intended for students to learn about programming and electronics, you need to be a fairly hardcore geek to turn it into a home PC, and even then it'll be one that doesn't run Windows (it is all but impossible to run Windows on one).

If your computer is slow it's possibly because you haven't run the two maintenance programs I mentioned. XP and older versions of Windows need that to be done fairly regularly. My parents likewise suffered with their XP machine because of all the crap they installed which would load itself on startup (all the junk you'd get from those free discs from The Times or the Grauniad). It really was a case of turn machine on and then go make a cup of coffee or water the plants before you could use it without it churning the hard drive every few seconds.

Anyway I hope you find a solution to your problem, I think it might involve getting rid of BT. If all your neighbours are suffering too you might consider getting together and demanding some kind of refund on the grounds that the service is not fit for purpose.
