NEW YORK - Authorities have disrupted planning by foreign terrorists who wanted to attack the New York City transportation network, the federal government announced Friday.

It did not appear that the city's tunnels were ever at serious risk.

"We have disrupted a terrorist network that was in the planning stages of an attack," a statement released by the
FBI and Department of
Homeland Security said. The agencies said the FBI had been monitoring Internet chat rooms and cited the arrest of a key suspect by Lebanese authorities as a significant break in the investigation.

Lebanese authorities, in coordination with U.S. law enforcement agencies, arrested an al-Qaida operative who admitted to plotting a terror attack in New York City, a senior Lebanese security official said Friday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing, said the arrest was made a month ago. The suspect was identified as Amir Andalousli, but his real name is Assem Hammoud, a Beirut native, the official said.

New York's transportation system has emerged as a potential terrorist threat in several recent cases. A book highlighted a reported plot by al-Qaida terrorists to kill thousands of New Yorkers by spreading cyanide gas in the subway. In May, a man was convicted of plotting to blow up one of Manhattan's busiest subway stations.

See what id tell ya! THE PATROIT ACT IS WORKING!!! Theres something george bush did right. All the democrats want is George Bush to fail! Thats why they are against the Patroit Act.It has nothing to do with civil liberties nothing to do with against the consitution.Liberals want George Bush to fail.Democrats use the courts so they can block George Bush from suceeding, Just like they run to the US Surpreme Court about Gitmo bay and tell them those prisoners are entitled to a lawyer AND THEYRE NOT EVEN US CITIZENS!!! So The Patriot Act is Working folks!! There hasnt been an attack on US soil since 9-11.But when you elect a democrat for president i gurantee you al queda will do something far more worse than 9-11.

err, I disagree with the idea of Patriot act. I think it had gone way too far! My friend is trying to grow with his business, only that Patriot act really got in his way and cost him several times, FOR WHAT? When you open an account at least 10,000 dollars, you can NOT touch for the next 90 days just to make sure your not terrorist. WTF? My friend is American born and he have NOTHING to do with terrorist. He lost alot potential customers because of this stupid Patriot act. BTW, maybe somebody is watching your Grandma to make sure she is no terrorist... is that reasonable, eh?

Well my dear liberal friend it seems the president is really protecting america from terrorist.I bet you really enjoyed the days when Bill Clinton put everybody at risk by being too nice to Kim Jung II.

It sure as heck doesn't sound fair to me!

I am ambivalent about the Patriot Act. I think it could be a good thing, if applied correctly. However, it seems like there's also a large potential for abuse, and for that reason, I think we need to take another look at it. There's no need to treat people like criminals. There's no need to spy on ordinary citizens "just in case". If there's proof of wrong doing, then, yes, the PA should be imployed to it's fullest extent. However, it's not. It's ALSO being used improperly to spy on people who are just ordinary citizens like you and I.

This is wrong.

Dont Talk terrorism on the phone or in chat rooms you dont have nothing to worry about. This guy from lebonon talked terrorism in a chat room and the FBI monitored it and so they play in his game acted like they help him out and then the caught him today.Look how they got the 7 terrorist in miami who wanted take down the sears tower. And those 15 Terrorist in Canada who were arrested. Its got nothing to do with civil liberties or nothing to do with against the consitution. All democrats wanna do is get George W Bush and Make him fail.If we had the Patroit act before 9-11 ,,,9-11 wouldnt happend. But President Bush did follow procedures when 9-11 was about to happen the FAA did give the warning but the Judges wouldnt give the feds the warrents to search those hijackers. And get this im sure Taylor will tell you this one of the maryland state troopers did pull over one of the 9-11 hijackers for speeding but the trooper didnt do his job right he didnt even serach his vechile even suspect was hold an arab passport so Governor Paris Glendenning Fired The Chief State Trooper cause that officer didnt investigate the suspect futher after 9-11 attacks. And Who knows what might been the result if the terrorist did blow up that subway today?? So the Patroit act is working great!!!

The trooper did his job. He made the traffic stop and wrote the ticket. Some in the media blamed the trooper but he did nothing wrong (and I'm not just defending a police officer). We do have a thing in this country called The Constitution..in this case, the 4th amendment applies.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

The trooper made a traffic stop for speeding. He had no probable cause to search the vehicle. Had there been a hint of a crime (the odor of drugs, weapons that are visible, etc), then that would have been enough probable cause to do a search. A speeding ticket does not automatically get a you a vehicle search.

For example, you are driving down the road and are speeding and a police officer pulls you over. Do you want him removing you from your vehicle, tearing your entire car apart...reading through the personal letters you have shoved in the glove box? Would you be willing to sit on the side of the road for the amount of time it takes to do that or would you say its more reasonable to write a citation and send you on your way? This trooper had no idea of who he was dealing with. Had that terrorist been smoking a doobie and the trooper could smell it, then he'd have a reasonable search.

PIKESVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- Maryland State Police released a videotape Tuesday of a traffic stop involving hijacker Ziad S. Jarrah two days before the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

The state trooper's dashboard-mounted camera did not capture any images of Jarrah, one of the hijackers aboard United Airlines Flight 93. The flight, the last of the four hijacked planes, crashed in rural southwestern Pennsylvania.

A police spokesman said that the officer was wearing a wireless microphone and that the audio track captured the driver giving simple "yes" and "no" answers to the trooper's questions.

The trooper stopped Jarrah for speeding on Interstate 95 shortly after midnight September 9. In the video, the officer can be seen approaching Jarrah's car, obtaining his driver's license and registration, and returning to the patrol car for a radio check of the credentials.

Police said the trooper then is seen returning to the driver's car and is heard explaining the citation as he obtains a signature on the ticket.

Authorities said they believe several passengers and crew on Flight 93 -- alerted via cell phone conversations about the other three hijacked planes -- rebelled against the hijackers.

A month after the hijackings, U.S. authorities discovered a letter written by Jarrah to his girlfriend in Germany and postmarked September 10.

In the letter -- which was mistakenly addressed and returned to the United States, where authorities found it -- Jarrah told his girlfriend he had done his duty.

"I have done what I had to do," he wrote. "You should be very proud, it is an honor, and you will see the result, and everyone will be happy."

There you have it. :thumb: All we need to do is send enough marijuana to Al-Qaeda and all our domestic security problems will be solved.

Taylor What if the Terrorist was in LA? I Bet the LAPD would use a very differant method. The LAPD is known for harrassing people and drivers.AKA Rodney King for example and another cop shot a member of the airforce on his way home from iraq.I rather have the LAPD in my neighborhood than the maryland state trooper.

Lol, Levonian....how about parachuting down a couple million kegs of pig blood? Would that be more effective?

Oh God—are you still pretending that you’re not Ravensteve? Look dude—I’ve met Rodney King. He’s a piece of shit. Not to mention the fact that he was driving 110 miles an hour down the wrong side of the fucking freeway when they pulled his poor little innocent ass over. It’s time for a little reality check here. Not every motorist in Los Angeles gets the ‘special RK courtesy treatment’. Although, have you heard the new motto of the LAPD? It’s “we’ll treat you like a King”.

Lev, Why are you in a Research facility? What are you in for?

I was captured as a baby in Uganda and raised in a biomedical research facility. If you would like to buy me my freedom, the lab will sell me to you for $5000.

Levonian said everything there is to say about Rodney King.

If the LAPD is known for harrassing people and drivers and randomly shoot Air Force members on their home from Iraq, why the hell would you want them in your neighborhood? You have no problem with them harrassing YOU when driving or randomly shooting YOU? I guess you agree with it as long as its happening to somebody else or another race, correct? Even with the tragedy of 9/11, I still want that state trooper in my neighborhood. Not only was I hired to enforce the law, but I am bound by the law...and I prefer to surround myself with those that serve and protect and practice within the boundaries of the law (even if some laws stink)..and those that are of a high moral character who 'do the right thing, even if nobody is looking'.

Cause Los Angeles Crime rate is Droping .Something the LAPD is doing right.

So why not george bush invade lebonon now? Lets take their country like we invaded Afgainstan,IRAQ and now invade lebonon. Our Navy is more powerful then the lebonese navy. And After we invade lebonon then give lebonon to israel .
