Elderly Driving

Ravensteve, I cannot believe how well you do with contradicting the hell out of yourself. First, you don't want to be considered handicapped. Being deaf, to you, is the worst possible thing in the world. Okay...even one who truly believes deafness to be a handicap will STILL park at the end of the lot because their LEGS work fine. In most cases, anyway.

Are you that lazy that you have to get a handicapped tag because you don't want to walk? Or is it because you're deaf, and you DO consider yourself handicapped?

At any rate, enjoy your free parking, ravensteve, because you DO have issues.

yea MENTAL ISSUES.. that's for sure!!

Thanks guys for your postings. I still have not decided whether I should report on my Papa or not. It is damn hard. My Nana is helpless as he wont listen to her about going to doctor or cut back on his driving. He has so much pride.

I can see now why there is growing danger with elderly driving. More and more people are living longer yet they don't have sharp mental/physical skills like before yet they insist on continuing as if they are still in 30's.

I will be in Los Angeles for 10 days in March so will talk to Papa about this and see if he will listen to my reasoning. We are very very close.

:ty:

PS, Raven, as usual, you had to twist this thread to talk about YOURSELF. Frankly I am tired of your nonstop need for attention. The world does not revolve around you.

Meg--

In 1987, we found out that our dad had Alzheimer's... we were devesating.. he was only 57 years old.. he was driving that time, his tempers get worse.. so his long beloved job (45 years ).. gave him retirement... after he resigned, he still driving around and got lost.. we had to come out and get him.. even tho he was 500-1,000 miles away.. eek.. so we decided to take his license away and keys.. but his temper flared and had fears that he might hurt mom even he dont know who she was..
we decided for our mom's safety that to put him in nursing home, his health got wrose within 3 months, he passed on..
The dr said that average of that age do happen so fast and passed on..
its like hit by brick.. hes great man.. alot of fond memories.. anyway .. sorry.. Meg.. my advise..
talk to your mom.. (nana).. if your dad is mild Alzheimers.. have police and some counselor volunteer to come out and explain him that he cant drive anymore..
now days.. the drs have medications for Alzheimers and didnt have it that our dad's time.. good luck.. (if your dad is veteran-consider to contact with them-- they are great with Alzheimer's patients)

*huggs* hang in there. :ily:

What the HELL is wrong with you ? What kind of HC you got ? why you have HC permit ? I don't use it.. I use it when my mother in law NEED it to go anywhere cuz She's more important THAN YOU!! she has Bone tumor/cancer in her HIP, she requires in both Walker and wheelchair MOST of time.> She already bend her ROD once they had to Replace the rod and make the Rod bigger and cut more Bone off cuz it wasn't helping.. She damn need the HANDICAPP PARKING SPACE NOT YOU!!!!!!!

yep Wendy -- my g'ma is elderly and have had replaced her hipbone too from a fall while in Utah and my mom has her HC parking placard for her when mom drives g'ma anywhere she uses that HC parking placard for g'ma and brings out her walker so she wouldnt have too long a distance to walk to make her appointments

Meg -- i hope u manage to convince ur Papa to give up driving for his own safety as well for others

I agree for senior citizen no longer drive over age of 65. My dad in law got real ticked off that he could not rent a car when he was out in Las Vegas visiting my sis in law. Rental places out there in Vegas do not let people over 65 rent a car. that is nice.... I don't know about other states.

That's nice?

How is that nice?

I don't think it is fair at all. Teens are the worst drivers, they cause the most accidents out of all the age ranges. There are many elders who are perfectly capable of driving, but there should be a certain age where they should be tested every year.

But to strip their license away simply because of their age rather than their driving skills is plainly wrong.

i agree Banjo -- it wasnt very nice especially if the issuing state that issued the DL says the person is still ok to drive over age 65 and Las Vegas should have recognized that

i agree abt the annual testing after a certain age for driving priviledges as well Banjo

i completely agree with you!! :thumb:

Beware of Tousi while on the roads. :giggle: just kidding now, aw come on.

It is scaring to see elderly couple driving, as my late grandma drive until she died at 88. She only take her car out in the daytime only.

I support the idea for anyone to have their eye test done with doctor at the age of 65 upwards every year, better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with you that teenagers should be off roads, they should get liscense at over age of 18. too many reckless driving...killing so many people.

I would let senior citizen drive with dr permission to prove they are healthy enough, like not having alzhimers or parkinsons, etc. Taking road test to make sure they are capable of driving. My grandma is 84...she stopped driving last year because she could not drive after injuring her hip.

I only meant for people who is over 65 with health problems should not be driving, not for everyone...sorry if i misrepresented my words. No offense taken.

I own a gun. I've owned it since I was 15 years old. I owned a different gun before that since I was 12 years old. You don't see me running around like some maniac... do you? ;)
