Don't it bother you when someone hung up on you during you call thru the relay?

Did they threat you that they will call the police on you for harassment?

It happened to me today. I called Hungry Howie's pizza to order food, somehow they hung up on me SEVEN times and they threated me that they will call the police on me for harassment them, I was like go ahead to call the police on and they will return back to you and telling you that you are making fool out of yourselves because I'm deaf, they was GULP in big time and apology and even gave me 1/2 price off worth of food that I ordered, wow it's so amazing. Ugh, I hate it when they do that to me or all of deaf people.

Unfortunately that happens to me almost all the time when hubby and I use relay.

For some people, they think relay is a telemarketer and I have to tell relay not to identify themselves as relay but to proceed with the phone call without using the courtesy message explaining what relay is otherwise we'd have to put up with the repeat calling back and forth.

Glad you stuck with your guns and proved people otherwise.

It happens to me often depending on who I call and where I am.

In Rochester, just about everyone takes relay calls cuz they're familiar with the needs of the deaf community.

Where I am now, the deaf community is smaller and not well-known. So, most people will hang up on me. :(

It does happened to me so many time via relay, I wasn't pleasant of it. :(

Happens to me sometimes thru IP relay as well...

afew times I called Best Buy about some dvd I was planning to buy, and wanted to ask some question about it and that person then said she refuse to talk to someone over relay unless someone can talk to her directly and then she said she choose to hang up since she is not interested in talking over relay. She was a total bitch since she didnt even understand what IP relay is for and wont even let me finish explaining it before she hang up a couple times so I was like fuck it then.

This happens sometimes. One time I was trying to get set up a hair cut appointment, and this lady kept on hanging up on me until she listened. I said that I would report her to her manager, and that I was trying to set up a hair cut appointment. She was sorry and took my appointment. She thought it was telemarketing. When I went to my appointment, my hairstylist apologized that she didn't know. I notice hair salons are usually ignorant with relay calls. Most other places take the relay service.

One time I called a doctor's office, and this lady took my call, and she made every sound of annoyance that the relay could type back. When I was finished doing my business, I told her about what the relay is capable of relaying, and that next time she should take the call as any other normal call. She got speechless and apologized, then hung up.

I also believe that there are a few people who try to hang up in hopes that we'd go away and not call back. Some say they don't have time. Some put me on hold for another call or pass my call to someone else to take care of the Relay call.

I think that there should be a commercial from Sprint over T.V. to educate people about it.

That's a great idea! They should have a commercial about it. I know Apple had a few commercials, once was an iPod commercial with a signing dancer and another was one with Marlee Matlin.

A lot of my friends came to me and said, "Hey Nika...I saw this commercial..." It opened up a dialog to help them become educated about Deaf culture. Time to do that with TTY and Relay. <smile>

I had been hang up before and I got pissed. One day when I have a chance to go down to that person and tell that person that I am deaf and I used relay. That person gulped and apolizing me. I told that person do you want to lose customer or gain. She prefer gain so there. I got her good.

One time I called my doctor to make an appt and the secretary answered with proffessional manner. When I went in and she said I love that relay and it is interesting. That made her day and mine too. :D

Yeah of course it does bother me. I just hate when people hang up on me after a long wait on the phone....d'oh!

Oh, yeah. I got hung up several times, I'm sick of it. I remember a hearie person said to me, "what the f**k is this, a telemarketer, don't ever call me again".

you know what I do?, I told relay operator not to explain them about relay service. I told operator to say, "Hi, I'd like to order medium pizza, etc" and gave my address and my phone number to operator before calling them. the order was on the way, that's simple. you can tell operator, if you dont want her or him to explain about relay service to pizza.

I order pizza online instead of calling anyway.

Oh, that happened to me too. yeah, it pissed me off. I have to start over again and call them.

Yeah, it is a waste of time. Sometimes, I give up and call them other time.

I´m sorry that you all have bad experience to order something via relay.

I couldn't see the first video. It said it wasn't available. I liked the one with Marlee Matlin. Really cool message. That's a confident woman. How can hearie not see that? Yeah, we should flood relay to do a commercial. Marlee Matlin would be great for that.

meyag2, it'd be great to have the relay operator not introduce themselves, but it wouldn't work for everything as there will be delays in response. Pizza can be ordered online, which is a good improvement. I know some areas still cannot order online though.

:)

Clearly, YouTube search "iPod Sign Language commercial." (That's all I did... and hoped it was the right video.)

Yea, it has happened to me before I got VP. Now, I do everything via VRS cuz the risks of getting hung up go down.

What is scary is I would never deliberately hang up on a deaf person, but we get 50 to 100 telemarketers a day. Sometimes the same one, five times in a row, and we have all gotten to the point we hang up by the time three words are spoken.

"Hello, this is..." usually does it.

I would feel so bad, but it could happen easy.

I get hung up on quite often. I take it with a grain of salt because I'm so used to it (and I can laugh at those so ignorant.) But on the few occasions where I was waiting for a LONG time then it does piss me off a bit.
