Hard time finding the job to work??

--I did, I live in small town -- well, not small town but i called "it". They all kept turning me down cuz of my communcation, well d'uh - I can talk and I have CI and thats why I'm going to hearin school cuz I have a higher education. But fine -- they never tried to interview me. So my aunt offered me a great job - Luckily, whew! But I hate when people do that! Does that happens to u guys?? Just curious.
 
Yes, that's happened to my hubby.. he is still currently looking around for a job position for payroll/accounting.. it's hard to get an accounting job these days since the economy is bad since the 9/11.. he has been in interviews and etc, but no luck. He's still looking and not giving up!
 
Blah, family business. Bad deal. I got fired from a family business who had Deaf relatives. Reason for me getting fired? Because I couldn't lipread a supervisor with a mustache. Dumb, huh?

As for finding a job, it is hard but also easy. I get job offers all the time and wondered why my other Deaf friends complain about not getting any. Oh, that's right. I keep in touch with the people hiring and making sure they know I am interested in the job. And most of my Deaf friends stay home and wait and wait and wait for the phone to ring. Keeping close contact with potential employers increases your chance of getting hired. Don't sit on your ass at home and wait for someone come to you with a job. That ain't gonna happen.

I guess I havent had that problem yet. I live in a relativly large town. (Minneapolis) and I got my first job 2 weeks after i graduated from high school. My dad was working there first, and he ended up being the first to leave (for school, but also cause i was climbing the ladder a little faster than he.) Now a year and 2 months later, same job, better pay, more power :)

However, they should not deny you an interview because you are deaf. Thats discrimination, but I doubt they'll actually tell you "we dont want you because you're deaf," they do what they do to other deafies - "oh we're not hiring." :( Happens to my mom (who is 100% deaf and cant talk clearly if at all) all the time. I dont tell people I'm deaf when I apply - sad to say - it helps. If you can talk and etc - impress them first, be like "i want to apply here, are you hiring and when wld the start date be?" Agressiveness pays off. If all else fails - sue. ;) :ily:
 
Well, here is the suggestion that what i have done in the previous before i got my job here ... I work for State job. at first I was very furious to find a job and keep pest around for updates with my application . so i was fed up with these process so I decide to use Temporary service as it is weekly paycheck which is better than nothing. as u could do explore round different varies jobs. and I found job that i really like to work ... and i keep countiue work same job and notice that many another temporary workers was let go expect me .. I was wondering why is that ??? so I decide to talk to the supervisor about these situations and found out that they was forward to have me request for appliction to be prement job here as i was :jaw: and no wonder why they wouldn't let me go so i go ahead and appliction and had no job interview which why is that they already know me better as they have been osberves on me which i had work here for 7 months so bingo i land job and now i work for same company for 3 and half years actually all totally together with temporary service and prement job as 4 years and 4 months . so I consider Temporary service is worth try !!! so I have been suggest everybody else to do same like what i did ... and it appear success for them to get job as prements .. so I think U should try my method .
 
hmm.. instering points of view... as for me i never had problem finding a job.. I worked many different jobs.. Air Force national gaurd, Target, Warehouse, Wal-mart, and temp agency.

Well... What i always do is.. filling an application or resume.. never tell them i'm deaf. then i keep calling the company if they're instering in me.
(i know Relay service sucks, but it's better than nothing) so when they're instering in me.. yet. other sad thing is.. try not to force them to hire an interpreter. I normally take notes while i am having interview.
But, if I am having major Job, i'll require an interpreter. like the one at airforce.
Anyway,
My job right now i've been working for 3 years and 5 months.. enjoy it.. have been advancing my job to support manager. I'm currently taking college class for Accounting, after i'm done hopefully my current job will advance me to work as an accounting.
Meetings, take notes, Classes they have an ASL interpreter on the computer screen, not real live. but it helps..
 
yes its challenging to find a job as a deaf person -- but not impossible if a person has the willpower to keep going and not be so discouraged -- volunteering helps too as well as having a college degree (which ive not yet have my hands on but will eventually)
 
well everyone has problems finding jobs unless they have the "hookup" but both hearing and deaf alike- I have friends that graduated from Sanford and they cant find a job either!!!!
 
I didn't have trouble finding a job in the past -- when I first graduated from high school, I picked up a job about 3 weeks after graduating and the State hospital where I worked for 8 years, kept on hiring me back every year when I had to leave for college in the fall. After one year of that, I decided to work full time, so I worked there.
I thought I would have a hard time finding a job in Los Angeles when I lived there for 2 years, but in one day, I had obtained a job as a Concession Dept worker at Paramount Pictures Studios.
But in Australia, it was totally a different story, it took me 10 frigging months before I finally found a job after countless of rejection letters. *sigh* At least, I have a job today. ;)
 
well... probally the major reason why people is having hard time finding a job, because hundrends of thousand people get laid-off from work for 2 following reason.. business shut-down, or business failed their encomcy. My dad recently got laid-off, cuz the business can't afford him and 300 other employees, Dad worked under the State of Minn. yet.. he's having hard time finding a job since June.. still looking for it.

Also you can notice the unemployment rates raise.. that's another major problem here in U.S. business can't afford new empolyee. and people who got laid-off they either choose to retire or work at fast food restruant in order to support themself that's Sad part seriously.
U.S.A. NEED TO WAKE UP! get the damn encomeny UP! PERIOD! NO MORE FUCKIN WASTING THEIR MONEY FOR WAR, ETC!
 
Or they could do the easy thing --

Shut the RIAA down, in return, file sharing shall become "legal" and the government can tax the hell out of it.

I'd do the same with anything thats really out of government control. Weed for example, as if they'll ever shut down THAT business. Just make it legal, and tax the living hell out of it.
 
Ah, bawhahaha, i'm one of the lucky few who don't have to work. :) not yet at least... well... not until i'm 22. that's when my trust fund money runs out. :-/
