9/11? Ok, what about Kosovo?

For them it was hell, for us it was just another headline on the news. 9/11 for us was hell, we'll always remember it in our hearts and tell our grand-children of it, to others? It was just a headline...

Sad isn't it?

The reality of war on your homelands vs seeing it on tv. I want to discuss this. Honestly, what's the purpose of news nowadays? You wake up every morning and the headlines roll "Mother put her baby in microwave to dry it. Tragic story at 10" and you don't even flinch. Have we, as humans became so desensitized to everything because of how much we see it and how much it occurs? Are we not arsed to care anymore because theres just too much crap nowadays?

Edit; I'm trying to overdramaize it by saying people don't flinch. Granted it makes alot of people sick, but afterwards they just move on with their life. I feel I'm over-thinking things again, but if people cared what was happening... they'd take action, right? We're a little lazy aren't we? We have our own lives to worry about with how shitty the world is nowadays, but maybe if we all pitched in at once it'd be easier for everybody.

It's understandable to whereas we're in a fast-paced and hectic world that we live in, yet, somewhere when a news story of such tragedies and more, (especially when it occurs close to 'home'), there's a likelihood that a certain group gathers together or a number of people taking such drastic steps to 'reach out' to get involved with each situation which are tragedies and more, these 'stories' may not reach the headlines...maybe it's time that stories of these folks who do step up to the plate ought to be headlined. Otherwise, these tragedies and absurd ill-fated stories will get washed down like any other stories and also perhaps a few will 'think'...'oh, there's bound to be someone 'taking care of it' and move on'?

Your perception is otherwise noted and surely we could use more headlines that relays positiveness by others who have or is currently dealing with such tragedies and more. Just then, perhaps, we won't be seen as a world that is getting crazier and more people doing crazier things........only. ;)

I do remember what is like. I really don't like to watch TV news, because its always bad news. I really hate it. I rather just move on and deal with it..I'm not worry about what is going on in the world and there is nothing you can do about it. I forget about the past, of what is happening in the past. People kept thinking about it over again. They just cannot deal with it. Some people keep talk about 9/11 over again and I cover my ears. I don't want to hear about 9/11 again. I rather just move on...That is why, I don't watch TV news and I got tired of it..Its make people worry too much and make them sick too.

I find it is too depressin' to watch News on TV - too many problems. I usually watch " weather " only to see what's up in each day everyday. It's best to enjoy my life where I don't find depressin' ... to keep myself to live longer. :)

Last thing we need more stress, news on Tv give us stress and short our life. George Burns lived to be 100 and he said he never watch news.

I like RR's idea. Sometimes I wonder if it's possible to create a utopian society where your biggest worry is whether a football team wins the game and you can sleep in an alleyway with 10,000 in your wallet and not worry about getting mugged or raped. There's always a cause and effect to why crimes happen, why people do what they do.

Money, religion, greed, hate etc etc etc. It's almost as if our fate is hard-wired and pre-determined. Perhaps if we understood the human mind better we could prevent people from being wired a certian way such as wanting to be a criminal. Also people need to learn more about religion-- Think of it as a way to live your life, not as a way for you to force upon others. They also need to learn to tolerate other peoples religion and opinions.

What was that one movie called again, I hate when i can't remember the name of a movie- Anyways this family lost their brother or something so did a couple others in a shooting, they all met somewhere and decided to pour EVERY Bit of their money into buying a wildlife preserve then they devloped a religion, pretty simple one, they lived sort of like amish people and made up a 'fake' monster to keep their children from wandering into the woods. This guy gets hurt or killed or something then they like send the blind chick to go get modern medicine to save him and it all comes undone =/

:D maybe them amish people know what they're doing?

The movie is called " The Village". I remember that one too. We did see that about 3 time.. It was pretty good movie..They don't want their kids go into real world. They are protecting their family from happening..They want to keep it that way and make life simple..

Anyway, Amish had simple life and doing the old way..I have seen amish people back in east. They are not allow talk to outsider .

Ah, yeah. That's it! As for amish You have to wonder...Do they truly have it better? It seems to me- while they have a pretty stable life and such and are generally great people they're missing out on so much- Art, literature, classic rock, the joys of microwave burritos and ramen to name a few things! Is it possible to take the principles of being amish then apply them to a small society of people while keeping a certian degree of freedom to explore other things open?

Oh, Amish had a better life than we do.. I really don't know much about Amish. They don't fight back and they don't believes modern thing. maybe Amish might be tempt it and want to try new thing. But, they won't do that.
I would say Amish do have more freedom than we do. But, I have notice they work hard and use horses for ride. They are cleaner people. I guess, that is what I think.

Dark-Half, sorry to say, but for the news to capture attention, "if it bleeds, it leads."

What if you are deaf and Amish? Are you really living a better life, not being able to get the advantages of technology that the deaf have today?

If you're one of those people who really believe that "the past" was better or "less technology" was better, then get off the computer and move to eastern Pennsylvania. I guarantee you that "life in the past" is not better than today. Even the Amish have their crimes and their hateful biases. No one's perfect.

Did you know that actually happened? EVERYONE I know was horrifed by that.....nobody I know was "whatever" on hearing about that.
Another muder yeah.....but using a microwave or a dryer or something like that to kill someone is still greeted with "ewww ugh! that's even worse then the Nazis!"

Freedom is a very elusive term. How are you defining it? No one is truly free...no one. Another way to put it is that there are limits to everything.

As for the Amish missing out? I don't think they are missing much. One man's vista is another man's prison. Most of us have enough trouble enjoying the simple things let alone living life in the "modern world". It is instructive and interesting to note that man has become more pychotic the more urban our world has become.
