I am wondering how many of you deafies excercise or not? I want to exercise but I am not able to due to restricting of walking. Two years ago, I dislocated my left foot and had to be in the cast for 3 month and then started wearing a walking crows cast. I cannot walk far or cannot walk to much. How can I start losing weight, as well I am diabetic? Does anyone have a problem like what I am going through, but not similar perhaps, different situation that you are restricted to exercise for the rest of your life?

I am looking forward to what everyone has to say.

As some of the people on here know that I'm a total freak about BODY ATTACK (Les Mills)

I've been doing it for 5 years now ever since I quit gymnastics. I've been a sports person ever since I was born!!!!!! It's in the family. It's like the air I breathe! :)

Next year I'm going for the Marathon! It's gonna be tough... I hope I'll make it!

Hi ...just wanted to tell you, wish you all the best for next year, hope you make it in the marathon.

I exercise often. 3 times a week, walk the dog for 20 mins/30 mins of weightlifting/30-40 mins of fat burning workout and then the other 2 times-60 mins of fat/cardio workouts. I just got the Wii fit so yesterday, I did my 20 mins with the dog, 30 mins with the wieghts and then 40 mins on the Wii Fit. I am still recovering from the shock to my body today.LOL!

I hate to say this, but I do not at ALL

:S :( maybe i should start......

I do wanna lose some weight

Does swimming count? :giggle:

I ride the bike and walk at times. but not as much as I should.

I have a sprint triathlon coming up in a few weeks and... Im SO BEHIND! I went to Greece for a week n half then I was sick for a week (got a sinus infection), so I didn't get a chance to train much.....

Need to be able to run 3 miles, bike 6 miles, and swim 400m by Aug 15th......

Man, I don't even have a working bike.

opportunities

I like to exercise by way of work, but there are some really cool things out there
that I check out and do at different times depending on what injury is conflicting with my life. I like plyometrics and weights combined but don't have a good setup for doing it right now. The health club is a weird atmosphere quite often so I just don't go there. This is where the homestead lifestyle comes in. Cutting and stacking firewood. Pruning trees. Repairing equipment.Gardening. Digging. Going out in the lake rowing the boat. Wandering off to climb in the mountains. Pouring concrete for a building foundation. The list just goes on and on. I don't do the livestock because of allergies and having to go off to work.

How bad is your foot? Can you work on a stationary bike/ exercise bike? That's one of the more common ones.

Or try out Taichi, there are many other forms of exercise where your biceps/legs are not used as much, but the biggest factor is your own willpower, as in how long you can be devoted to it as you probably already knew.. rather than giving up.

is this okay for hoh to answer? I highly endorse Tai Chi, I have been doing the Yang style for several years. I like many martial arts. I worked out pretty much every day of week when I was at an interval-type <circuit> workout place.

Husband <deaf w/o aids> has VERY bad feet - very flat, internally "deformed" due to birth mother having had German measles. One leg is shorter than other. He also has arthritis in knees and ankles and wears a brace on one foot. He can't really do weight-bearing exercise at all. Biking and swimming are what he has investigated and actually he did use to bike lot in college. We also have stationary bike.

Also, yoga - there are many different forms and like, Tai Chi, it can be modified to accommodate different requirements.

Heh, you're screwed. :D

I try to just incorporate exercise into my daily living routine. I ride my bike every day to work or store or whatever, play pick-up games of softball and basketball with friends on a weekly basis, walk as much as possible, work in garden, etc. I was running 3-5 miles a few times a week earlier in the summer, but then I got sick and injured my hamstring, and have been lazy about getting back on track.

I'm in decent shape, but I'd like to be as fit as my twin brother. He runs 30-50 miles a week.

Do I exercise.... hmmmm you tell me

 JK... that's not me

can it walk? does it sign in asl? does it move?

I lug around 50 lbs of supplies once a week and walk at least an hour or more 3 times a week. Most of the other times are spent sitting down and working on homework and I read daily. Although I've cut down on watching tv and started eating a little bit better, I've improved my hygeine and take vitamins everyday. Plus I do some cooking every once in a while. On nice, sunny weathers like this, I go out more often compared to winter.

And guess what? it doesn't matter what I eat or how much I exercise, my weight does not change. At most I gain or lose 5 lbs over a span of 3 months at the earliest and more often than not, I revert back to my original weight after gaining or losing weight. Some say its a bad thing, some say its a good thing, some say they are jealous of me.

Doable.. at least for me. Given that I get time to rest before the swim!

WriteAlex, Daredevel, do you guys like free fitness apparel? Are you on facebook?
I got this from Reebok earlier today and signed up for it. Apparently they're giving out free products (Both shoes and apparel) but they want you to test a prototype product for 3 weeks in advance in order to do so.

For free apparel:
The minimum requirement is to:
* Required to run a MINIMUM of 3X a week during testing (test typically lasts approximately 1-3 weeks) or participate in various cross training/gym activities (spin, weights, yoga, etc) a MINIMUM of 3X a week.

For free shoes:
# MUST wear a Men’s 9 or 12, or Women’s 7 or 9.
# Required to run 20- 40+ miles per week.

If you guys do either and are interested, let me know and I can give ya details. I think it's legitimate and honest. All you just gotta do is what you normally do if those fit in your criteria.

 that's a little more than just "built"
if real, can't be healthy-
