Disbelief is not a choice

Sorry, I went a little off topic there. Okay, back on topic..

Um.... what were we talking about? What was the question? :D

And today-- http://bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-14948730

CDM (Cold Dark Matter) theory might be wrong. Going to be a major paradigm shift.

Einstein said that time and space are modes of thinking. Our perceptions may bind us. I feel bound and gagged when I try to understand string theory.

Yes. That's why I love it when Dawkins explained space to a bacteria is very different to space to us because a bacteria is going to encounter friction all the time. We don't. So when he described our view of the world as "Middle World", it's a perfect neologism to describe what was on my mind for awhile.

String theory and its secessors are definitely out of my realm. I will leave those to Hawkings to simpify for us.

I watched a show on pbs about string theory. I'm sure that it was explained clearly but I didn't get it. Maybe it's like calculus where the randonmess gets smaller and smaller? I'll leave this to the experts and hope to grasp it someday.

Me too. :P

Daniel Dennett touched on this during a BBC interview with Jonathan Miller about Christians going to church, but not practicing what they preach. He found through his research, they go to church to interact with people. They like the concept of a benevolent God who will protect them. The rest of the details doesn't matter to them as long they are happy and are part of a community.

I think I came across a similar concept expressed at Freeratio.org in one of it's threads a few years go. The consensus was that people are social animals and that regilion served as a bond between certain groups to stick together.

That's just it. I believe we are not even close to the meaty part.
At least, I hope so, otherwise this thread goes whoosh over my head. :P
