Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton was crowned Miss USA on Sunday, but the big story to come out of the normally politics-free telecast was Miss California's comments regarding gay marriage.

When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said "We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

It might sound mean, but I kind of hope she did lose because of that. And not just because I think she's uneducated about the issue and wrong, but because it's such a bad pageant answer. I mean, there are so many ways to answer that question that would not require her to betray what she thinks, but would sound better to the general public. I mean, would anyone be surprised if some girl came out and said, "You know, I don't support President Obama because I believe that white people are better than black people. Sorry, that's just how I was raised", and then she didn't win? My guess is most people would agree, that's a dumb answer when you're trying to please people. Well this is too, so I'm sure it had some effect on the outcome.

You just reinforced your "some kind of awesome"-ness.

Mod's Note:

Thread moved to the proper location.

I guess "honesty" isn't always the best policy! So, I guess Ms California just didn't "word her words right".

Its a crooked world.

It's her honestly opinion. Don't hate her.

Btw, I got her phone number. yay! not...

Are you guys for real

It is clear that our country wants us all to turn into robots that just say what everyone else wants to hear. She gave her answer, the true answer. It is not about what anyone else wanted to hear but what she felt. How would you like it if I said you have to be Catholic and if you dont believe it then you are fired or criticised. Give me a break no one wants to be forced to do anything. Just like we can not make a gay person be straight you can not make a straight person think that gay marriage is ok. Marriage is a religious ceremony and dont try and force people to believe something they dont. We all live here because there is freedom of choice. How dare the public ask for equality and freedom of speach if you are going to belittle a person for just that.

I guess political correctness is more valued than honesty. If she had lied and said that she supported same-sex marriage would that have been more acceptable?

Got proof? Maybe ask her on date and find out until you end up in bed with her. Oh wait... are you female?

"Sorry but that's how I was raised" is honesty?

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

vs

"I personally believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. However, I do realize that people have different viewpoints. That's what is so great about America. People are free to fight for their rights."

Come on, you know that "Sorry but that's how I was raised." is a horrendous answer from a beauty pageant candidate.

So, you raise to tell that same-sex is right? Think about it. There are right and wrong for us. None are agree.

That is excatly what I have viewpoints. It is so sad to seeing young children are very confused because they wanted to introduce their parents to the teachers and friends. That is my Mom that is my Mom. Naturually, their facial impress gulp or shock. I feel bad for those children embarress to introduce their parents to other people.

Do not get me wrong idea, I am NOT against gay people. I have alot of gay friends, I do respect their happily and love relationship. Nowadays, it is very frustrated for young kids to interact their friends at their gay parent's place.

Seems I read this somewhere....."to thine own self, be true."

So, to me, it seems that she was....at that time she was asked the question.

She was the favorite to win the crown. Suppose she was asked "Are you a Republican or a Democrat"? She would have gotten a lot of flack for whatever answer she made.

Or, the question, "Do you believe in abortion"?...

The question she was asked, should have not been asked! But it was, and supposed she just lied....to make the "Gay" community happy! She chose to answer the question truthfully, and lost the crown because of it.

She may have worded her words wrong, but she was truthful to her inner beliefs. She's young, and she may even change her mind later on.

Good post, especially when we all know how beauty pageant contestants are expected to speak, and unfortunately, it is in a way that sugar-coats everything with bright, white, perfectly even teeth.

My concern would be that she said "I think I believe". Maybe she needs to think about it a bit more until she is sure of what she believes.:giggle:
