Dear Alldeaf members

People have raised the question whether things have changed recently. I don't really think so. I've been here since 2004 minus some time away, but I have seen AD's evolution and I have to say that drama has always existed here. It's different now because the people are different; that's all. We also have a few who are very vocal about their oral only stance. If you think about it, it's really just a handful of people that polarize AD. That being the case, you can exercise your own remedy. If only five people cause most of the drama on AD, then put those five people on ignore. It's a lot better than the way it was; where you had to put 20-30 people on ignore to keep sane.

Admittedly, I use ignore a lot more now than I did then. If I had utilized it back then, I probably wouldn't have gotten myself all bunched up in a knot like I did most of the time.

You're being bitter for such a silly thing, IMHO.

The forum in the past was very chaotic. We couldn't even debate with open minds and I recall debating with a twisted stomach because I couldn't tell if someone was going to throw an innocent comment I made back to me in a perverse way.

There were a lot of cock-stroking between some members and the past moderators and I am glad it's gone because that was the source of the chaos. We didn't know to rely on which moderator as some members would just butter up to them in a way that made our heads spin.

They're gone and to be honest, it's for good. This forum I am able to post in a level-headed way. Change is good, accept it.

I didn't realize that. You're right about the change...less trolls and firey debates today than in the past.

There's less paranoia here as well.

I am happy for you and Mrs. Bucket that AD is a better place to come to. The old AD was only around for a short time after I joined so I didnt have as much exposure to it as you both did.

I'm also a different person than I was then. Age and maturity has done wonders for me!

Let me say that AD still has it's drama, but like I said, all forums do. But, like she said, we can debate with open minds now. We may not like someone's opnion (or many opinions), but, we're free to give them and take them; or not.

This place will always have it's drama regarding oral only VS ASL. Politics will always be hotly (and sometimes, bitterly, debated); but, we are free to do so within reason. Threads will always be locked. People will always be banned if they cross AD rules, but, it's all done fairly now. It wasn't before.

Yea, we will always have that.

Gosh, I remember those religious threads! What a trip that was!

Let's just say in the past.. the penisarium wasn't popular!!

We've revived that section with such a healthy attitude!! :laugh2:

Alldeaf has really opened doors for a lot of people, and I have heard from so many people personally how AD has really impacted parents, students, deaf and hearing people, and so forth in a positive manner. For many deaf people, this forum was their first step into a deaf world. For me, I didn't know many people had shared my experiences until I joined this site. What a relief that was, to discover that there were others like me...and a heartbreaking experience to know that people are still enduring what I had been through. I thought I was the only one who went through hell. I don't even know if Alex has truly registered to himself the impact he has done by opening this site...he built more than just a online forum. He built a community, one that unites deaf people from all walks of life.

It has opened up lots of doors for me. I know recently I have had my problems, but in reflection, I realize, it was me and not anyone here on AD. I treasure my friendships and miss those who don't respond to me at times, but all in all, I really like AD. Yes, it has changed over the few years I have been here, but I think for the better.

There are times when I need to be "bashed" over the head like I have been and while I didn't understand at the time, I do now. So, Botti and Rockin'Robin. Keep knockin me up-side the head when I need it please. :giggle:
