A deaf and dumb youth was ''forced'' to undergo family planning operation within five months after his marriage, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly was told today.

Raising the issue through a calling attention notice, Mr Ramlakhan Sharma (CPI-M) said 32-year-old Heeralal Mehra, whose marriage took place in June this year, was sterilised compulsorily at a family planning camp at Sohagpur in Hoshangabad district in November.

''The inhuman act was done by the doctors in order to achieve the target'', he complained.

Denying forcible operation, Health Minister Ajay Bishnoi said the victim had inadvertently conveyed motivator health worker about having two children, but the health worker came to know about his marriage only after the operation.

Health worker Rajpal Choudhary had been suspended, Mr Bishnoi added.
 
That is pretty cruel thing to do to a married deaf man. :/

Yes, that is confusing.
 
This "youth" business may show a very nasty underestimation of this person's capabilities.

And what a horrible thing to do! I hope whoever did it will be held accountable.
 
I'm getting the impression that the "youth" part was because of his maturity and education level, not because of his age. It's entirely possible that he looked young and wasn't able to comprehend the health worker's actions because of his mental facilities or being inadequately educated.
 
lost in translation

The problem maybe that the person translation this from whatever Indian language was used to English chose that word incorrectly. Youth may have just been meant as young, in fact, it may even mean that in British English.
 
Geez, it is because of their deafness?? Not only that but they should have the right to have children...and forced sterized is unacceptable to me! They should ber sterizled if either they don't want children or is done with having kids. What happen to freedom of choices?
 
This sounds like a translation problem or something. :dunno:
