Difference in opinion doesn't. That is not what Aleser's post is saying. Read again.
I read it just fine .... he said Christianity was teaching anti-gay hatred ....

If a person can read, and if a person has a Bible in his language, and if the person actually reads the Bible, and if the person is receptive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, then a person can be saved simply thru the Scriptures. That's how many people are saved. So, preaching in order for the Deaf to learn about Jesus is not necessary. They are capable of reading the Bible on their own. Preaching is only necessary to promote a specific doctrine.
Jesus says they are supposed to.Some do, most don't. Who says they are supposed to? Where exactly is that requirement and rule written?
Exactly. You are speaking about the destructive effects of forced cultural contact. These effects have been documented for centuries by cultural anthropologists.
That wasn't a sneak attack. It was very much out in the open.
I would like more context of the story. It seems incomplete.I can find out later when I go home. Meanwhile, let me ask you this. Why are you asking those questions?

Jesus says they are supposed to.
It is written in Acts 1:8 of the Holy Bible:
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
Also, Matthew 28:
"18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo , I am with you alway , even unto the end of the world. Amen."
The imprisonment of sin, and an eternity in Hell.Saved from what?
To be a Christian one only has to trust Christ for salvation, and to live for Christ.Anyone know the history of the missionaries' impact on the aboriginals of the Americas all the way from South America to the native boarding schools of the Great White North? Not to mention the destruction of cultures in Africa and in Asia. It seems missionaries don't just teach, they force others to be robbed of their cultures and languages and be forced into homogenization. Apparently because to be a Christian, one has to do it the white European way.
To be like Christ is definitely not the Western way of being. The people of Western countries and cultures are just as hard to reach, and just as un-Christian as people anywhere else in the world. They may have more technology available but they aren't any more civilized.Mind you, I'm aware not all missionaries are like that but they do believe that to be like Christ, one has to also adopt the Western way of being one because one would be a barbarian or a savage if they didn't adopt white man's oh so civillized culture.

Where the hell do you get your disinfo from? Oralism was based on teaching the deaf to SPEAK, not saving their souls .... MY GAWD!!!!
Study a little deaf history and get back to me. You are obviously lacking in the knowledge you need to discuss this intelligently.

Since our model is Jesus, that wouldn't be white European.

If anything, our missionaries adapt more to the indigenous cultures than the other way around. Also, our national missionaries already belong to the cultures of their service areas.
Don't forget, at one time white Europeans were the barbarians. Missionaries from the Middle East had to spread the Gospel to them.
Do you know the historical impact of Islam on African culture?
Did you know that homosexuals are killed in Islamic culture? Did you know that Christian Missions were the only missions bringing food, medicine and education to Africa for centuries?
If you disagree with Christianity, step up, give food aid and education to Africa .... Christians have already been doing that ...

Islam was not forced on the African cultures.
You are buying into the savior fairy tales again.
Do you do that? Donate, volunteer, give food? Sponsor a child in Uganda? Give micro-loans to African businesswomen? Help pay for surgery for young girls who gave birth too young and now have fissures? Help pay for school desks and school supplies so young kids can get an education in Nairobi?
I do. And by the way, starting next summer, the rest of my life will be dedicated to volunteer/charity work.
And I am not a Christian. Just someone who cares. Far more than too many people plopping their asses down on a pew once a week.
