Danger:Amusement park rides

Alot has happened this year with the rides. Its pretty scary though. I love going on rides and it wouldn't stop me from riding any. I would think... how many people get killed in other accidents other than the rollercoaster rides? thousands and thousands are killed everyday for different things. I would take precaution on what we do with our daily life and use your judgement.

That's true. We hear about the deaths on thrill rides because they make sensational news. Just like airplane crashes.

You're more likely to die on the road than you are to die on a roller coaster.

I went to a theme park not long ago and it said people with hearing aids and pace makers, or CI should be advised not to go on ride... what's with that I can get the pace maker and possibly the CI cuz of the magnet?...but wat bout ha?

hearing aids can be taken off, simple as that. but I'm not sure about the CI.. yes.. pace makers meant those who have heart problems are not to ride the rides!

again...Playland Amusement Park

Brown and his son, Jacob, 5, were in potato sacks sitting atop the Fun Slide on Saturday when something went wrong, he said. A park employee, Brown said, prematurely nudged Jacob too hard, causing him to pick up uncontrollable speed down the slide and fall on his face at the bottom, bruising his chin and elbow. What's worse, Brown said, is that another employee working at the bottom of the ride didn't come over to help the little boy. Instead, Brown said, he shot down the slide himself to scoop up his son and tend to his bruises. "The negligence and stupidity of the people who work there is amazing," said Brown, 31, a mortgage broker. "I know my son is going to fall - I want him to fall so he learns to get up - but I don't want him to be scared because someone who works at an amusement park messed up." Brown said he asked to speak with someone at the park but was instead handed a complaint form to fill out. As of last night, no one from the amusement park had called him, he said.

Park worker dead after fall from roller coaster
(Tuesday, July 17, 2007) - An 18-year-old man died from injuries he suffered in a fall from the top of a roller coaster at the Loudoun Castle Theme Park in Ayrshire, Scotland on Sunday. The accident happened on the Rat, a steel roller coaster. Witnesses said that the man, who was visiting the park on his day off, saw that one of the ride's cars had stalled. He climbed to the top of the ride to push the car forward, but when it began to move, he was still hanging on to it. Within seconds he fell more than 50 feet. The car was occupied by three guests when the accident occurred.

Las Vegas in 2002,nose diving earthawards on roller coasters I'm actually afraid of heights. I feel safe while strapped into a sleek big dipper car and can even enjoy the views during the lift hill climb. But put me on top of a tall building without railings or on one of those rides that shoot you heavewards at 100mph(Omg) and I felt quiet nauseous & dizzy :| i will never ride it again :)

I don't know why I love thrill rides because I am so afraid of heights. I somehow feel secure when I am secured on the ride. It may be false sense of security, but psychologically works for me. I never like climbing, hiking involving heights, going on ladders or roofs. I get sick and very dizzy

Aren't you talk about the Stratosphere?? I rode on the roller coaster on top of Stratosphere too, but the roller coaster wasn't great at all, but nice to feel like riding in the sky :D I know Stratosphere have something that lift the swing and you sit on it, swinging a few feets away from the Stratosphere. Scary!!

Stratosphere have 3 different rides on top. Just being on top where you can almost look straight down through angled glass is a trip. Was there a couple months ago and there new ride at top this year. What a rush! This reaching my limit of courage and daring.

A 48-year-old man and his 21-year-old son were killed when an amusement ride car broke off a ride at a carnival in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France. The ride, called the Booster, consists of a giant arm with two four-passenger cars at each end. The arm revolves vertically around an axis and reaches speeds of up to 55 miles per hour. The victims' car detached and slammed into the ground. Two other people who were in the car were seriously injured.
The second car was carrying two riders, both of whom were uninjured. They were left stranded 118 feet above the ground for six hours until rescue workers were able to free them by cutting through the ride's safety bars.
